Karen drove home from the hospital in her Porsche Cayenne. The 2011 Porsche Cayenne is visually shorter and smaller than its predecessors with more muscular curves, a more slanted rear window and less upright windshield, a more sloping roofline, door-mounted mirrors, smaller windows at the rear of the vehicle, headlights inspired by the Carrera GT, taillights that extend onto the car's tailgate, LED daytime running lights and a vastly redesigned interior modeled after the Panamera. The 2011 Cayenne is almost 250 kilograms (550 lb) lighter than the previous models due to extensive use of aluminum and magnesium, making it more fuel efficient than the previous lineup. Despite its lower stance, the new vehicle's off-road capabilities have been retained without compromising the street performance-oriented layout and design.
Ben was enjoying the ride. Even though he was only 36 hours old he really dug the luxury and power of Karen's motor. It had been a special reward from Mr Schopenhauer her line manager at the hacking firm after she had succeeded in breaking into the Police National Computer and altering his criminal record.
Karen parked outside her luxury flat in South Norwood.
South Norwood was part of the county of Surrey and the County Borough of Croydon until 1965, when following the enactment of the London Government Act 1963 it became part of Greater London. The town is now part of the wards of South Norwood and Woodside in the local authority of Croydon, which has the responsibility for providing services such as education, refuse collection, and tourism.
South Norwood lies on the southern slopes of the Norwood Ridge which forms the southern edge of the London Basin. This line of hills runs from north-east to south-west for about three miles (5 km) and rises to approximately 360 feet (110 m) above sea level at its highest point. It is formed by a ridge of grey silty deposits known as London Clay, capped in places with the gravel of the Claygate Beds. Because of this gravel working was an important local industry and at one time the road along Beulah Hill was called Gravel Pit Road.
Karen thought that London Clay sounded pretty dull to be honest. And the gravel industry ...meh.
After carefully locking the door and setting the alarm system Karen poured herself a large glass of super strength cider and headed for the hot tub.
Her sore body relaxed in the warm water and the gentle tones of Radio 1 lulled her into a daze. Suddenly she shot out of the tub and in a panic fumbled for the car keys. She had left Ben in the passenger seat of the Porsche.
A crowd of locals was gathered round the vehicle from which loud banging tunes were emanating.
Ben was bouncing up and down to M.I.A's crucial track XXXO.
An uptempo electropop-dance song, "XXXO" exhibits a Tamil folk music-influenced melody with elements of techno, electronica and tribal music displayed. The song's instrumentation consists of marching band percussion, and backing vocals, drawing inspiration from pop music. "XXXO" is lyrically based on the theme of the creation of a sex symbol and romance in the digital age. Music critics praised the direction of the record, its playful lyrics and futuristic sound. An accompanying music video for the song was filmed by M.I.A. during the month of July 2010, who opted to direct herself having initially commissioned Hype Williams to direct. It features graphics interchange formats and animation of her album artwork, and depicts the singer singing seductively to the camera and scenes from her flip-cam, framed by stars, greeting card flower decorations and English words written in Arabic abjadiya or A, B, Cs.
Karen unlocked the passenger door and retrieved Ben. Somehow he had managed to switch on the Bose sound system.
Developed specifically for Porsche and optimally tuned for the interior of the new Boxster and Cayenne models, it can be combined with optional Porsche Communication Management (PCM) or the CDR audio system.
This high-end audio system comprises eight amplifier channels with a total output of 445 watts. Its 10 loudspeakers, including an active subwoofer concealed behind the dashboard, deliver a balanced acoustic pattern.
In combination with optional Porsche Communication Management (PCM), the BOSE® Surround Sound System enables audio playback of DVDs and is thus able to make full use of the impressive sound spectrum of 5.1 digital recordings. Of course, you can still play other audio sources, such as CDs and MP3s, in stereo or, at the push of a button, in one of the virtual surround modes generated by BOSE® Centerpoint® 2.
Karen hurried back in to the flat, thanking the bystanders for their help. She wished she had had time to put her clothes on.
