the colour of the solution is brown because iodine is formed, which is brown in solution. It only changes to blue-black if starch is added.

the reaction is too slow, less HBr is formed and therefore low yield.

the difference between fractional distillation diagram and the distillation diagram is the fractionating cloumn. So you just have to draw circles to fill up the fractionating column.
