For Core 1, for question 2)a)ii) the question asked x√12 = 7√3 - √48

Did anybody else get 3/√4 as the value for X, or have I messed up? Thanks

x√12= 7√3-√48
x√12=7√3- 4√3
x√12=3√3
√12 = √4 x √3 = 2√3
x(2√3) = 3√3
x= 3/2. (1.5)

for x i got 3/2

Oh yeah I just thought, 3/2 is exactly the same. Hopefully I won't get penalised for not turning the root 4 into 2.

A) Show p=3/2

72=p96+q
24=p24+q

48=p72

48/72= 2/3

B) find u3

72= 2/3*96 +q
72=64 + q
Q=8

u3= 2/3*72 +q
U3= 48 +q

u3= 48 + 8
= 56

For the second translation did anyone get Root((x-2)^3)+0.7)

I thought the -2 had to be cubed with the x, and the -0.3 taken off the 1? But still in the root because its not actually with the x?

haha its only one mark if that does happen and i think the grade boundaries would be lower as the paper was semi hard according to c1 standards

What was the proof for trig question at the end? I couldnt for the life of me do the last 2 parts on Q9 :frown:

Did a resit of C1, paper wasn't too bad
Can't remember the questions though. :frown:
-Area question i got 27 for the final part.
-x was 3/2 for the second question
-the circle translation question. i put translation 6 to the right and 7 down, so (6,-7) in the square brackets (not too sure about this being correct)
there was a question, express AB as 1/4√10
Overall fairly confident i got over 95%, hoping for 100.
For Q1, p was -3, k = 10, D = (-7, -4).
For the surds question, x = 1.5 and for part b the answer they were looking for was 8 - (15)^0.5.
The complete the square question was 2(x+1.5)^2 + 0.5 and the length of AB was 0.5(10)^0.5.
Dividing the polynomial by x+3 gave x^2 - 3x + 5.
The integral was 31.5 or 63/2 and the area of the shaded region was 27.
The point furthest away from the x-axis was (5, -14) and the translation was by vector (6, -7).
The last question was 20/7 ( < or =) k (< or =) 4.

Nah, I got (√33)/2

You only had to find the value of k not solve the inequality.

The answer was k = (-20)/7 and k= 4
Also, for question 5)b)ii), it asked you to use the coordinates that we got from part a)ii) (-3,-13) or something I think,
and find a minimum value putting it into 1/2√n

any done that one? And did you get 1/2√100?

Same here, I was getting scared hearing 116 everywhere!

Can anybody remember the question and the u1 and u2 values?

Edit: I derived the u1 and u2 values by using u3 as 56 and I think u1 was 96 and u2 was 72.

I put in 3/2 instead of 2/3 :frown:. Such a stupid mistake to make! How many marks will I lose? The question was just a two marker right?

*sigh*

No it was not. It was a real roots question, so it asked you to solve the inequality to find the possible values for k. In addition, it was 20/7, not -20/7.

For the 2 to the power of k question, I actually got k = 2? Did anyone else get that?

I think it was 6/5

I got those too :smile:
I think people didnt realise that it was a trapezium.
Area of that was (6+33)*3/2 ?

Fairly sure that trapezium's aren't covered for Core 1. Pretty sure that they're introduced at Core 2.

Nah I thought that too until I did a past paper this morning before the exam and it came up, yet I still used the area of a triangle like on this paper annoyingly

In C1:

was it

(X-5)^2 + (Y+7)^2 = 49 >>>>>>>> (X+1)^2 + Y^2 = 49?

or other way round?

i got (-6 , 7)

The question in Core 1 involved using the area of a trapezium in the integration, but it wasn't a "trapezium rule" integration question(which is in Core 2, if I remember right) .
