How does everyone to about answering the IR spectrum questions, because its normally around 8-12 marks, and comes right at the end when you don't have that much time left?? OCR were quite mean to put two twelve markers at the end of the Jan 13 paper

ideally you would have gone through the first part of the paper fairly quickly as the questions aren't that long. This should leave you with around 20minutes at least for the final 10 marker. I normally start by working out the empirical formula as they pretty much always give you some masses etc.then look at the mass spectrum which would let you work out the molecular formula. then functional groups on the IR spec. Just take each bit of information at a time.

My unit 1 UMS was 85 and my ISA is 37/40.

Oh I thought that was for combustion. So is formation and combustion kinda a same thin g?

How is everyone feeling for this exam? I think most of it is fairly straightforward hopefully the exam will be as good as the unit 1 paper, looking to get high ums hopefully.

The only thing that is annoying in my opinion is the whole how science work section and green chemistry. Do we need to know the uses of all the polymers? And in how much detail do we need to know about the recycling,sorting and processing and in general the how science work section in module 1

Don't solely depend on those notes, use it in conjunction with the OCR textbook, as it don't not go into detail with every topic! :smile:

I think this unit will be fine really. As long as you know all the mechanisms, reactions and definitions you'll get a high mark. I got 34/40 in my practical is that an A? and hopefully got a high marks on the unit 1 exam, now need a high mark in this unit.

Hey, quick question about F322 mark scheme.
"DO NOT ALLOW formula with horizontal ––HO OR OH—"
What does this mean? It keeps saying that in the mark scheme but I'm not sure what it is referring to...
