My French teacher has predicted every short essay question for the past few years and got it right every time apart from the concerns of young people (she guessed school though). This year she thinks it is likely to be sports and leisure activities to tie in with the recent popularity of sports due to the Olympics. Although she also said that could tie in with health and well-being!

Obviously this is just a guess so it should be taken with a grain of salt!

Personally, for the short essays I'm just learning my speaking phrases again. All of the different sections in it are pretty much short essays and it's kinda familiar to my mind.

Thanks you so much, that is a great help. I have noticed that nothing about family relationships has come up yet- only friends. I doubt friends will come up this year though, but looking at the list, the essay topics are pretty unpredictable. What do you think>

Hehe that could be a possibility. It hasn't some up for some time. I will be revising stuff about my hobbies and healthy lifestyles later then .

Does anybody have any ideas for the DW? I will learn everything but I may have to concentrate on certain areas. My teacher think that it will not be about jobs you did whilst on holiday in France :/?

No problem! I doubt that friends, concerns of young people or rules (mainly because that was a hard paper) will come up. Yeah, my teacher said that the essay isn't predictable for this year at all! I'm hoping that since future plans hasn't came up in a few years that that will, or something about advantages/disadvantages of where you live! What are you hoping to come up?

I am really hoping something about healthy lifestyles (exercise, diet) comes up since it hasn't in a few years but I don't think there is any point in hoping. I mean I would be pretty happy with family, free time, money, where I live and school because I have done loads on that. But I just hope nothing obscure comes up like rules or freedom!

Yeah, either way I think I'd manage to piece together something but I'm the same, really hoping nothing to narrow comes up that would be difficult to write about!

I'd have to disagree, with some subjects the SQA can be predictable although I've not really noticed a pattern with languages. My French teacher told my class to learn essay phrases that can be adaptable to any essay and pay attention to the quality rather than complexity.

What kind of phrases can you use that can adapt into any essay?

Hi everyone!
I was just wondering, for the directed writing in the higher german exam it was about going to a christmas market and staying with your friend in germany. Do you think that means it's more likely that it will be about going to school or getting a job abroad?

That is pretty strange...that is not really a topic for Higher French :s-smilie:.

The DW was about a job last year so it is less likely that it will be the same this year, although it is perfectly possible that it could be.

But does anyone know if the DW will ever ask you how your friend/friends felt about X, Y, Z?
Reply 97
So it will probably be about an exchange with your school and then going to school with your partner..
Yeah it will sometimes, I did a practise paper once and it was about going to a languages debate and if was about smoking for young people and what you said at the debate! It was HORRIBLE and so hard I didn't have a clue what to say!

Just trying to learn some phrases about health because I haven't done any practise on a health question for the personal response yet...

Short essay will be health, smoking, drugs etc i think

I really hope so because I did my speaking on health. I haven't done very much on smoking- I may just write a few lines on that write now to memorise.

But I ask you, why do you think that topic will come up ?
