I'm either going to apply to Cambridge or Imperial as I only want to risk one BMAT uni. I will decide once I see if I get the UMS average 'requirement' for Cambridge.

Wow. I was considering Cambridge, but I don't think I would get in , so I'm still a bit unsure. I'm going on the open day though. Should be fun. Even though I know I'm deffo applying to Imperial, the open day is full. :frown:
Ah can someone here please help, when I'm applying for my bursary for the UKCAT do I need to use my middle name, or do I only need my middle name when actually booking the test?:s I'm so confused

Is your middle name on your passport/the ID you will use? If so yes.

tbh honest though if it isn't, whilst you don't neeeed to, I would put in on just in case

Don't know for certain, but if you give the same information in both cases that will probably make things easier.

I want to go into the navy and they offer a medical cadetship, where they pay for your final three years of medical school and you do your two years of Junior training in one of the armed forces hospitals, all while training to become a medical officer. Once you have completed your Junior Training, they offer extra training into specialisms etc and you obviously have a minimum service to carry out.

Hi I am wanting to study medicine but i'm having to resit yr12 due to extenuating circumstances, (dad was ill). Because of this I did not achieve the grades what I was expecting to. So I decided to do yr 12 again and then apply for medicine. I have done some basic research into some unis that accept candidates with extenuating circumstances, e.g. sheffield and Manchester. However I am carrying on A level geography whilst doing AS sciences and I am expecting to get an A in geography as an A level. Does that put me to an advantage over other candidates provided I get 2 A's in my sciences.

Help me out guys, any feed back is welcomed.

Hi, there is an article on resit policies in the wiki... http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/wiki/Medical_School_Resit_Policies
You should probably contact a few med schools and explain your situation and your plans, and ask them if they would consider you - certainly you should have a conversation with any med schools that you want to apply to.

You asked if you would have an advantage, and I think the answer is no. Some med schools will not consider you even with extenuating circumstances, as they feel its unfair to their other applicants who offer 4 AS's and 3 A2's studied over 2 years. Other med schools are more sympathetic, but that only goes as far as considering you on the same basis as the other would-be medics. Btw, what is your 4th AS subject? - you've only mentioned geography and 2 sciences.

Remember that your school/college will need to back up the story of extenuating circumstances, in the reference that they provide with your UKCAT application, so make sure that they do that.

Good luck!

Basically, right now I am currently doing A level geography, with AS subjects in Physics, Chemistry and Maths. I am asking do I need to take up only 2 A2 sciences which I have mentioned next year or all 3 A2 sciences. Does having an A level already by the end of this year hopefully at A grade put me at an advantage with extenuating circumstances. Thanks for replying btw, much appreciated.

There's no way you can come out of this with an advantage - all you can do is avoid being lumbered with a disadvantage. The extenuating circumstances should be enough to persuade many med schools to relax their normal requirement that AS/A2 studies be completed in two years - it won't get you any advantage beyond that. Once the timeframe has been extended from 2 years to 3 years, I doubt the med schools will quibble over which years you sat different exams in. My opinion is that you'll probably be OK doing 2 science A2's next year, but you really should ask the med schools themselves.

I would rather just do the 2 A level sciences next year like you said but I am not sure if med schools would allow it or they want all A2 sciences next yr, btw is this your own opinion, have you heard this from somewhere else or are you an actual medical student or hoping to be one like me? haha.

These forums see a steady stream of questions from people who are in non-standard circumstances, wanting to know how med schools will react. Ultimately, we can't say for certain - you have to ask them to get definitive answers. We can point to their policies, highlight hidden pitfalls, and give opinions, but we can't give definitive answers to non-standard scenarios.

By "my opinion" I meant it's my opinion. And it's definitely my opinion that you should ask the med schools themselves

I'm not a med student or a hopeful - something in between.
I'll be starting med school at Sheffield in September, A2 grades permitting... http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showpost.php?p=42480070&postcount=597

I've been considering this for a few years. Are you going to apply for funding before or whilst you're at uni?

I am  Never found another girl interested in it! My parents aren't too keen on the idea though. I am considering either navy or RAF
