OCR A2 English Literature Exam 6th June 2013

I know most of you would/(should) have started your English revision by now, but if you hadn't or wanted more context/critics/quotes I've put some of the revision stuff I made on GetRevising. It's a mixture of internet, school stuff, other revision packs.

King Lear - Section A
The Rivals by Sheridan and Songs of Innocence and Experience by William Blake- Section B

Additional information: On Section B OCR claims that all 5 or 6 questions can be answered for all texts. So the question tends to be quite generic - love, power etc.

I'm doing king lear in section A, I've answered so many essay questions ive made but I was wondering if you have any ones that you think are most likely to come up or any abstract 'curveball' questions you've thought of?

Same, but we do really weird/hard questions in lesson e.g. Our first essay was "The calamities of tragedy do not simple occur, they come about as a result of the actions of man" how far do you agree? So they're broad. However our teacher thinks Women will come up, one of my friends thinks Madness (even though its very predictable. I guess a curveball question would be on the Fool
Hmm yeah I think madness might not be broad enough and doesn't give (i think it does) enough to cover in the play, it's not like a major theme so to call it but rather a motif or meta-theme. I'm really hoping justice or women, it would save my life in this exam, I need an A in it:frown:

Same, I'm more nervous about this section, than section B because there is more choice in Section B.

My teacher thinks that the Lear question will be something along the lines of Lear is 'a man more sinned against than sinning.' Discuss

But I'd like a question on youth/age, fate or unnatural vs. natural

I'm hoping its one about the inversion of the natural order or Lear's duty as king. The differences between young and old is a favourite for me too!

I'm really worried about this exam (maybe more than my maths ones which is a first). I panicked so bad last year and I can't afford to do the same this year. Does anyone have any tips for keeping calm and remembering quotes?

For staying calm and relaxed I've been using this app Joseph Clough Hypnosis (apple) before I go to sleep, it seems to be helping lol.

Sinning would be good, everyone in the play sins to some degree

not sure if anyone's seen this?

King Lear Core Themes (According to OCR)
They include:
- Order and chaos
- Parents and children
- Kingship and power
- Tragedy
- Gender
- Humans and Nature
- Old age
- Evil
So the theme question will probably be based on one of these. The only one that worries me is gender?!

Gender might not be too bad now I think about it more, you could do like;
-effect of women in power
-lack of mothers
-Edgar/ Edmond vs Cordelia and sisters
-women all die off stage
-matriarchal society at the time
-women in causing the breakdown of the natural order- all three daughters
-important of cordelias death
-cross over roll of fool and Cordelia

Just a few ideas:smile:

Does anyone have any critics quotes for the Wife of Bath or the Rivals, I'm really struggling to find them?!! :eek:
I have some for the wife of bath from the OCR booklet the exam board made and the introduction in the green Cambridge edition (most recent) by James Winny.

Hi, attached some essays I wrote on The Great Gatsby, they're not perfect but I got an A on the first two essays which I wrote really early on this year in preparation for my coursework, then the third one is my actual coursework which I got 36/40 on (its compared with Whitman and Death of a Salesman but hopefully you will find some useful paragraphs on Gatsby)

This is the exact question I got in my mock and I only got a B, it was so hard to talk about the entire play because the question focuses on Lear. I think its worth planning if two teachers think it might come up!
