No interphase is NOT a stage in mitosis. Mitosis begins with prophase. :smile:

Hey could someone please help me, In the jan 13 paper there's a question worth 2 marks which is:
'suggest how the cell cycle will be affected in cells that have become cancerous'
And although I've looked at the mark scheme, I'm struggling to understand how and why it's affected.

basically, tumour suppressor genes are responsible for telling the cell cycle to stop, so don't make new proteins, or divide. If the tumor supressor gene is faulty, it won't be able to carry it out it's function which is marking point 3. And if it's not able to control division, then you know the cell cycle will occur faster (in less time) as it won't have to stop ~ marking point 2. Because it's faster as a whole, mitosis is faster, and interphase will be faster (marking point 1), and finally, because the whole thing is happening so fast and uncontrollably, the cells aren't able to specialise, as they presumabely start to go through the cell cycle, as there's nothing to tell it not too..

cutting root tip- could cut and harm self-cut downwards on a tile when cutting the root tip
acid-could hurt/damage eyes-corrosive- wear goggles
cant think of anymore :/

The unit 3 paper this month! Very little chance it'll come again and I have noticed that if they have asked to describe an experiment in a unit 1 paper its highly unlikely they'll ask to describe a practical in the unit 2 paper. Unit 1 they asked a 5 mark DCPIP question, so highly unlikely a five or more mark practical question can come.

oh i would prefered it if they did :frown:

that means they will probabaly ask alot of questions on reliability and validity in the next paper
