No ;( I wrote Protoctists for the water bear!
I was thinking either animal or protoctist, then the picture looked too buggy to be an animal haha

how much do you think is a C?
Reply 1763
For the water bear one being discovered 300 years ago, I put that;
Might have evolved/mutated from another species
May have been classed as the same species as another similar organism due to that fact older classification system were base mainly on appearance.
7 marks or not

For the selective breeding question

I wrote about how it follows natural selection
Best crops with best characteristics chosen and bred together until Hugh yielding crop.
Resistance to diseases due mutation and genetic variation
Crops with the resistance can on,y survive and reproduce
Offspring are advantageous
Alleles which cause this resistance passed over many generation
Evolution occurs (long term) so crops with the resistance becomes more common I the population

First microscope was invented in 1590

Depends how powerful It is doesn't it? Good optics are relatively new

It was an electron microscope though, which isn't an "early form"

Ah yes I forgot it said Electron Miscroscope.

I said that miscroscopes weren't invented (although should maybe have specified electron miscroscopes) and also that interest in biological science wasn't as high as it is now due to religious beliefs. But that was really just scraping the barrel as I couldn't think what to put.

niceguy95
wrote all that but though it was too short and began to talk about b-cells and antibodies, would I loose marks for including the second bit

I wouldn't have thought you'd lose marks. Like mentioned before, if it doesn't say "State X number of points" then you can write as much as you like. Only thing you might have lost is the sequencing point if it was in the wrong context.

Natural selection isn't the same as selective breeding?

For the people asking about the mycobacterium question I think mycobacterium is the answer, mycobacterium tuberculosis is a specific strain of the infective agent

Yes I put just Mycobacterium too, so glad someone agrees cos I was getting a bit doubtful after everyone was saying specific strains.

is underlining required too?

yup but said only 3  we both got it i see

same i just put the others incase anyone else had them and panicked as i would see those as valid too

i put migration due to change in environment i.e temperature climate etc

i also put speciation -so allopatric and sympatric barriers :/

Was ethanol DEG question, inhibiting?
is there an unofficial mark scheme yet

Not being funny. I think that was a bad question if the answer has nothing to do with size. If the answer was nothing to do with length, why would they give us the length on the sheet? Just to throw us off? It was of no relevance to the rest of the questions, if anything it would make some people less inclined to place it in the correct kingdom, animal. In addition to this, the fact that it's a tiny single celled organism to me suggests it has been around for a long time. But hey, that logic could be completely wrong.

It hasn't really evolved, it's one of the oldest living organisms out there!

I wrote primary structure for the first question :frown: technically, that is what it was describing... or did I read the question wrong again!
And more silly-ass mistakes:
Spores instead of droplets
Only underlined mycobaterium instead of tuberculosis (probably spelt that wrong in the exam aswell)
Cystine instead of glycine

Why must Biology have such funnily spelt/sounding words :frown:?!

I put cystine instead of glycine too!!!!
