Hi guys,
I'm a GCSE Examiner for Edexcel but many of my A-Level students did the C2 exam the other day.
They wanted to know how to do Q3(binomials) and Q8(logs) so I decided to make a short video explaining how to do them.
These are not taken from the official mark scheme, this is just what I think marks will be awarded for.
Let me know if you find it useful and if you would like me to explain any other questions.

For the core 1 1/2 n^0.5 I got 1/2 170^0.5. You substituted in the minimum value to get AB^2 = 42.5 and then that somehow works out to 1/2 170^0.5


I got 1/2sqrt10
The minimum value was 1/2
the last question had 5 multiplied by the equation. so i did 5*1/2, so sqrt5/2. which is the same as sqrt10/4.
if you sqrt10/4, you get 1/2sqrt10. which i put as my answer. pretty sure i got that right, i found a question like that on one of the 2009 c1 papers and asked my teacher about it just before the exam, and followed that method through

I got 117/2, then took away 63/2. got 27 for the area (had checked that like.. 5 times)
and the final one is correct. but i think i put just < not <= for my answer. there goes a mark :'(

I found one for core 2 as well which I posted earlier but isnt it amazing that some person has been able to fill in the answers, in the original question paper, then scan it and post it online during the 1 hour 30 minute exam? seems illegal? :eek:

Yeah, it's scale factor 2. Bear in mind the 2 gets cubed as well, which is why it showed up as 8 (2^3).

nah, i think a teacher probably got a copy of the paper, done it and posted it online after the exam.
Does anyone know what the grade boundaries will be for core 1?

Does anyone remember the actual question in core 2 that referred to finding k and what number question it was part of?
Can't really remember it but i think I put 2 as an answer.

Pretty sure a couple of those answers are wrong, but feel free to correct me.

Question 3(c)(i) - His translation is the wrong way around. He has it as (-6, 7). I believe it's (6,-7). It is asking you to map the circle (x+1)² + = 49 onto the circle C. This guy has mapped it the wrong way around, mapping the circle C onto (x+1)² + = 49. Two very similar albeit completely different answers.

Question 2(a)(ii) - He seems to have worked that out in a strange way. The way I did it, which seems a lot easier, I got x = 3/2 which I believe to be correct. This is my working out for it.

Thanks, looking back at the thread it looks like my translation was right too! I need 89 UMS in core 1 so fingers crossed :smile:
