Arsey's FP1 Edexcel UK Summer 2013 Model Solutions (Both UK and Non-UK Papers)

Attached to this post are solutions to all 3 FP1 June 2013 papers. Both UK and original papers and the non-UK paper.

Apart from the last part of the last question, this was a lot easier than the UK paper. I feel quite sorry for UK AS FM students who sat FP1 and D2 this summer as both UK papers were much harder than the corresponding Non-UK ones. That said UK M2 students were very lucky not to have the non-UK M2 paper as it was a beast.

Past Boundaries

Session 100' 90' 80' 70' 60' 50' 40'
Jan-13 75 69.5 64 56 48 41 34
Jun-12 75 68.0 61 53 45 38 31
Jan-12 75 72.0 69 62 55 48 42
Jun-11 75 68.5 62 53 44 36 28
Jan-11 75 69.5 64 57 50 43 36
Jun-10 75 68.5 62 55 48 41 34
Jan-10 75 69.5 64 56 49 42 35
Jun-09 75 69.0 63 55 47 39 31
Jan-09 75 68.5 62 54 46 39 32

The June boundaries are pretty consistent at 61-63 for an A. I doubt this will be any different. My guess is that they will be the same as last summer.

I will probably add a link for solutions to the non-UK paper tomorrow.

If I don't answer a question directed at me please do not get upset, any of the following could apply:

I might be busy;
your post might be too long;
I may not know the answer;
I may know the answer but have already answered the same question.

(take a few minutes to read the previous posts before asking a question)

I have turned off PMs, so your only option is to ask here. I had no choice but to turn off PMs due to daft messages/questions from muppets.

The grade boundaries will be primarily based upon how candidates have performed in the exam. There is NO point asking what would x / 75 be worth, no one knows. The boundaries will be released a day or two before results day. Official mark schemes will be released in July.

You require 240/300 UMS for an A in AS Maths / Further Maths

You require 480/600 UMS for an A in A2 Maths / Further Maths

You require 480/600 + 180/200 in C3/C4 for an A* in A2 Maths

You require 480/600 + 270/300 in your 3 best units* for an A* in A2 Further (*not inc FP1, D1, S1, M1 or C1-4).

C1 and C2 have to be used in AS Mathematics. FP1 has to be used in AS Further. However, your applied units can be mixed around in order to give you the best grade overall in both qualifications. This is done automatically but priority is given to AS Maths.

I thought it was a little harder than normal but fairly standard.

An immediate query, for question 4 part b) I only have Q(-1,-4) since if a general point on P(2t,2/t) 2t=-1 -> t=-1/2 whilst for 16 it didn't come out like that, so I thought therefore Q(-1,-4) Is this right?!?!

I really hope this isn't one of those daft questions but will you be doing an M3 solution at any time?

The markscheme is hugely appreciated as always :biggrin:

I didn't have anyone taking M3 this session, so no paper :frown:

I should get hold of it tomorrow though.

Yes, I'd be interested in knowing the answer to that too. I rather stupidly didn't get the second coordinate.. :redface:

Same! But noooooo everything write except 7c, I multiplied by the correct numbers, but wrote 25 again instead of 60! Outdone by primary school maths, how disappointing. Hopefully still 70+, securing my AA maths/f maths. Cheers arsey!

I think the answer is just (16, 0.25) because (-1,-4) is already given in the question where t= -0.5
I think u get (-1, -4) for t = - 1/2 -> when u plug that in the gen coord(2t, 2/t)
there's another x value for t = -1/2 (for Q)

Did you cross out the 16 solution, or leave it?

but then for that x-value I plugged that in and got 16=2t -> t=8 which confused me, but yeah I guess I drop 2 marks?
