Also, has anyone got any speculations as to what the grade boundaries are?
I'm thinking;

84 - A*
75 - A
63 - B
51 - C

and so on

I don't know... 84 is quite low. For one of the past papers it was 91 for an A* :/ and I thought the difficulty was roughly the same... But others might of found this exam more difficult than previous papers

can anyone recall any of the questions? I got the first one for definite! I suppose that's a start. I would love to re work some of them to give me an idea!

Does anyone know what the pythagoras question was about. The one with the triangle and you had to find x abd the other side given was (x-2) ??
Was a bit confused how you could answer it

Lots of people used Pythagoras and then the Quadrtatic formula but I Don't know for definite that that is the correct method...

a right angled triangle with sides 3, and x. The hypotenuse is x+2

pythagoras shows 9 + x^2 = x^2 + 4x +4 (a^2+ b^2 = c^2)

rearraging the sides and cancelling the x^2 gives us 4x -5 = 0

4x = 5
x = 5/4 (1.25)

There was the right angled triangle with the hypotenuse being (x+2) and then the other sides being 3 and x and you had to find X... There was f(x) = 3x + 2 what is it if it was f(4), 2f(x) and f(2x). Can't remember the simultaneous equation one, but I remember the one which was 6 1/4 miles to school and you had to figure out how long the bus travelling at 20mph took to get there :smile:

Here's one of the questions:

A cuboid has measurements of 70cm length, 60cm width and 55cm height.

a) Find the total surface area

b) Prove the volume of the cuboid is 231 litres

Answers

a) 70 x 60 = 4200
70 x 60 = 4200
60 x 55 = 3300
60 x 55 = 3300
55 x 70 = 3850
55 x 70 = 3850

total = 22700 cm^2

b) 70 x 60 x 55 = 231000 cm^3

one litre = 1000 cm^3

231000 / 1000 = 231 litres

Thanks!
Didn't get that answer, but hopefully some marks for workings out

Does anyone remember what they put for identifying three graphs?

A parabola, a cubic and a trig graph, I put;

1) y = x^2 + 4

2) y = x^3

3) y = sin x

Same :smile: How did you find the paper?

I thought it was quite easy, I only messed up on the construction question but hopefully I can still get some marks for that. I'm fairly confident I got 90+ :smile:

Well done that sounds good :smile: hope you do well. what do you think the grade boundaries will be?

when do you reckon the paper will be available online (if ever)?

I'll put it up soon

I think you'll find for the graph transformation questions, the correct answers were;
y=x^2+4
y=x^3-2x
y=sin(X)

The reason it was x^3-2x is because the x^3 graph has been squashed in the x axis, hence the -2x.
I'll try and answer as many of the questions that I can remember,

For the travelling to and from school question, I did the following method;
6.25miles*2=12.50 miles a day.
12.50x5=62.5 miles per week

Work out how long it takes to get to school when the bus averages a speed of 20mph;
6.25/20=0.3125
0.3125*60=18.75 minutes= 18 minutes 45 seconds

For the question about working out the volume of the childs toy;
it was the area of the cone (1/3*pi*r^2*h) plus half of the area of the sphere (4/3*pi*r^3)/2
(I have replaced the numbers from the question with letters because i cannot remember accurately)

For the question about the incorrect price of the jacket (easy 7 marker)
Divide the incorrect price of the jacket (£104) by 80 and then multiply the answer by 100 to get the original price, which was £130.
Then multiply the original price (£130) by 0.85 to find the correct sale price, which was £110.50

I thought the last question, the probability one was good! I got George with the highest chance.
There was also the question where you had to say how long the cuboid would take to fill (231l) at 0.6 litres/second?
