I stated that it was a gift of fire and therefore no discovery was needed. Newton still discovered gravity, regardless of whether an alien species discovered it first. If however Newton's knowledge of gravity came as a gift from the Alien species, then he didn't discover it. If fire came from humans own experimentation, then yes it would be their discovery, but it was a gift and thus wasn't discovered by humans :pierre:

Multiply throughout by (x-2)^2(x+4)

2x^2+4 = A(x-2)(x+4) + B(x+4) + C(x-2)^2

We want to find each constant, so get rid of each one by getting values to 0.

Let x = 2

2(2)^2 + 4 = A(2-2)(2+4) + B(2+4) + C(2-2)^2

12 = 6B \therefore B = 2

Let x = -4

2(-4)^2 + 4 = A(-4-2)(-4+4) + B(-4+4) + C(-4-2)^2

36 = 36C \therefore C = 1

Let x = 0

2(0)^2 + 4 = A(0-2)(0+4) + B(0+4) + C(0-2)^2

4 = -8A + 4B + 4C

Sub in values we know:

4 = -8A + 8 + 4 \therefore -8 = -8A \therefore A = 1

\frac{2x^2+4}{(x-2)^2(x+4)} \equiv \frac{1}{(x-2)} + \frac{2}{(x-2)^2} + \frac{1}{x+4}
