Why do people still have this idea that DD is a large bra size

and that bra sizes mean ANYTHING without cupsizes? I noticed on my own thread and some other peoples that people were still saying DD boobs were massive, completely ignoring that cup size is RELEVANT to band size. So a 28DD is so much smaller than a 32DD! I've also seen comments like "J cups? Does that even exist?!" which is ridiculous

Here are pictures of actual DDs

I'm starting this because of the massive misconceptions, and they're starting to annoy me, both on here and in person. Didn't know where to put this so it's here.

because although a 28DD would be smaller than a 36DD the person is likely to also have a smaller frame so they are the same proportions relative to the rest of the body just scaled down. DD might not be "massive" but it is larger than average relative to any band size.

It's actually not, look at the pictures. DD is a small cup size. The average bra size, when measured properly, would be around the E-F range on any backsize.

Ah thanks  Didn't realise that band sizes made that much of a difference, because I only think about cup size. But I still had a question. I'm 32B. If I was 28B would my actual boobs be bigger or smaller?
I know what you mean, I was completely shocked the first time I fit into a D cup. My ego was inflated but the reality remained that I didn't have great heaving boobs. By the time I grew into a 32DD I just saw it as a bra size that fits me, but when I've been in conversations about bra sizes with friends I hate mentioning my size because I feel like the general reception is "you aren't a DD, you're not that big". I'm not small but I'm definitely not the mental image people get when they think of DD cups. I don't really see what it matters anyway but as long as I'm proportionate I'm happy.
Judging from your previous thread it is safe to confirm that you have a dangerous obsession with bra sizes.

Smaller. 28B means you measure 28" under the bust and 30" around the bust. 32B means you measure 32" under the bust and 34" around.

I have looked at the pictures yes. And your expectations aside the fact that the average bra size in the UK is a C (probably more like a D since a lot of people wear around a band size to big) does not change.

edit: actually a google search has just informed me that the average size is now more like a DD so I take back the "bigger than average" part you are correct. But they are still not small

I know, it's not that big.
So true!
Also it annoys me when thin people claim to be a 34 or 36 band, so many people wear too big bands and too small cups. I think if everyone wore the right sized bra then DD would probably be pretty average.

EXACTLY. That's why I hate this so much, it gives people a really skewed size. DD is a pretty normal size. All sizes are normal, but it's not porn star boobs as people seem to think.

I will hapily say my size, because I'll then use it to educate people's bra methods

If DD is a small cup size, this makes my B cups feel very sad.

Exactly. I think DD-F or E-F properly fitted would be 'small/medium' average sized boobs, like not tiny not massive, that most people would be. It would be so much better if we didn't have these massive misconceptoins surrounding bra sizes! More people would wear the right size and my size would be easier to find in shops
This thread was a great excuse to look at boobs.

But most people aren't in properly fitting bras

Measure yourself to make sure you're in the right size, but there's nothing wrong with B cups
I agree. I posted a thread about this a while ago actually. I think maybe sizing/measuring has changed in recent years. My best friend is a 32DD and her chest is not large at all. Of course, with a 32 band she will not be massive but even so, her chest is really nothing. I'm 22 and when I was 16, I wore a 32DD. I feel like the 32DD chest I had 6 years ago is bigger than the 32DD chest my friend has now.

i think its beucase most people are a 34 band size which would be a big size
also men need a way to catogoriese what their fave cup size is :tongue:
so to have an idea of what a B is what a DD is just makes it easier for them to all know what their talking about eg a guy will mention a D cup and the other one will be visualsing a totaly diffrent size

while I did account for that in that most people who go for a good bra fitting fit they need to go up one cup size and down one bra size. The edit to my post acknowlaged that you are correct and it is infact an average size. However that still remains they are not small as you suggested.

Not 'small' as in non existant or tiny, but on the smaller end of the cup sizes. Cups go to LL and further!
