anyone else had a phone consultation before they started counselling.
im well scared, gonna have to hide in my boyfriends room while on the phone to them in the hope his mum or sister dont hear :s-smilie: gahhhh no idea what theyll ask

Yep. I was scared too, but it was a lot better than I thought it'd be, and the person who did it was really nice. Good luck!

I did yes.

Have your heard of the depression NHS test? Can't remember it's exact name but it's on the NHS choices depression page and I was asked those questions and had to rate myself on them as well as an anxiety one. That was all.

PHQ-9 (Depression) and GAD-7 (Anxiety). I was asked to do them in my telephone assessment as well.

With mine (admittedly, my memory of it is a bit hazy as it was the best part of 2 years ago...),, she asked me about my symptoms and how depression affects me (in addition to possible causes? I can't remember, but it seems like a likely thing to discuss)...

I'd split it up into subsections or chapters based on theme (you could do chronological, but I think that's seen as a bit basic), tackle them all as separate essays but also try and link each section to each other. Then a nice long conclusion in which you point out how interrelated everything is. That's pretty much how I'm planning on doing my dissertation, which is only 3000 words longer than yours (thank ****!).

Hmmm, that's a great idea! Shame I've already written it, although truth be told I did split it into different sections but I think your suggestion is better. But I'm kind of beyond caring about it now, just want the thing in.

8000 words eeeep! Could never write that much for an essay. Kudos for doing it though and not dodging it like I did

Hmmm, no idea why I'm feeling so low at the moment, can't even blame the essay :s-smilie: Was feeling so motivated about everything up to last week but don't really care about anything at the moment and am crying a lot. I'm sure it'll pass. Maybe its because I'm not as busy as I have been as term is over, working usually keeps the depression at bay.

Ah well, you win some you lose some eh?

Yeah, it's pretty daunting for me too, but it's hardly anything compared to what other students have to do. I'm trying to just think of it as being three or so normal essays and trying not to panic!

:hugs: Sorry to hear you're feeling down - maybe see if there's a new hobby or something that could replace work for you?

Thinking of it as three normal essays is a great way of thinking. Its kind of why I decided to write my essays in English this year and then translate as I saw it as two essays and two translations.

I know I'll spring back up I usually do. To be fair this is the first time I've been depressed in months and thanks to finally getting therapy earlier in the year I feel I'm better equipped to deal with my fluctuating moods. I've got the acting to keep me occupied as well.

Thanks for the support

I'm sure she will, be good luck! Yeah, mine hasn't changed for over a year. It's invariably 26-27. I have lots of issues with the PHQ-9 though (actually, I've told various professionals I've worked with why I don't think it's that great - it makes me look more severe than I actually am - and they definitely agreed with my comments on its flaws).

You can probably find a copy of the GAD-7 online if you wanted to get a bit of an idea of it. You may be asked to do the phobias questionnaire (there are about 3 questions for that one) and the WSAS, which looks at how things like work and everyday tasks and socialising are affected by your problems.

:jumphug: I'm sure it'll be OK, and I know that feeling. Talking to new people anyway is always terrifying. :frown: Doesn't help that I always feel like I'm bull****ting/exaggerating and don't understand/know what I'm thinking and feeling a lot of the time. If you do feel **** afterwards, it's perfectly natural (I generally feel a bit/very crap after appointments, even if they've gone well, just because it brings things up and I've spoken about my problems - it's hard), but you can always vent to Rory and on here and stuff.

Today has been awful. I'm struggling to deal with all my emotions at the moment and everything is really black. These flashbacks make me want to give up.

theres so many! i might wait for the letter to arrive, and see what they want me to do, gahhh so scary still

yeah i always feel like im just lying to myself, thats why iv only just been diagnosed, for years i just put it down to being a teenager, but i dunno :s-smilie:
when i used to go to a counsellor at uni i always felt worse after, so i dunno what to expect, just worried about rory because hes really not doing great currently, so i dont wanna put more preassure on him than there already is :s-smilie:

No worries, i'm always a pm away if you ever need me  Keep fighting Batee, you can do this!! I believe in you :hugs:

I'm doing all right, I got grades to be proud of and I managed to go out on a night out and meet some friends...something I never thought i'd do in January :'-) I do get bad days still, but i'm fighting agianst depression as opposed to me getting taken over by it. I feel so much stornger mentally now than I have done over the last few months. Am I out of the woods? No, but the light at the end of the tunnel is at least visible :h:

They should just let you have pets everywhere... Like in rented accommodation. Also, I feel universities should invest in kitten rooms (there is actually a puppy room at one UK uni... I just looked, it's Aberdeen...). Given that pets are good for mental health, animals should be allowed in more places. :yep:

Awesome  Agree

Feel very weird tonight, don't know how to explain it really. Expecting something bad to happen and i'm super on edge.
Made the mistake of just watching last night's episode of Luther... now I'm not someone who is usually triggered by things but I now want to cry and hide and feeling generally freaked out.. and I know I'll be getting nightmares.. joy..
