22 August 2013 GCSE results: Discussion thread

At the start of the year we did mock exams and received the results in an envelope within a 'results day' setting in order to 'shock' us into trying harder in our actual exams

I am incredibly anxious for results day! Fingers crossed and as long as you get the minimum required grade for your A-Level choices, it's not the end of the world, surely? Just prepare to work your arses off next year guys

I just need to get over a C in Business Studies to get accepted at my college. I got an A in my coursework, what grades would I need for a C overall in the two exam units? It's on the edexcel board. I appreciate it a lot.

It depends on your UMS marks.

That's a really good idea actually as being around everyone getting there results will make you care more about what you actually get as everyone will be telling everyone what they got and so if you don't do so well then it willbe embarrassing to have to tell people that so this will make you make determined to do well in your actual exams as you won't want to have to experience what you felt on the fake results day if you get what I mean haha good luck I hope you get AMAZING results I will share mine with you(Im in year ten so only get 3 results) and so maybe you will be willing to share yours with me too then we celebrate together or cry together...

It was a good idea, although a lot of people were crying! However, quite a lot of the lower achievers upped their game but the ones who got a/a*'s in their mocks tended to sail carelessly. Good luck with your results and I will definitely share mine so we can celebrate or cry, probably the latter with mine

I don't mean to sound mean but I think its good that people were crying at it means that they really care about how well they have done and I'm sure the people that were upset the most will be the ones that go on to do well in their real exams and the ones that acted like they didn't care won't do as well as they've hoped,what did you get on your mocks btw,I did a mock maths exam and got a c and english lanaguage one and got an A*,only just got it by 1 mark though and yeh I will share mine !

I found the crying a little entertaining and I feel really mean saying that but it's true. It's great that some people found the motivation though. I can't remember exactly what I got in my mocks but I know I got an A in Chemistry, English Lit and English Lang and an A* in Geography, Physics and Biology and a B in Maths from what I remember. As long as I get into my A-Level courses, I am happy and can begin to work hard to get the grades I need

Wow they're really good results I'm sure you will get on to your courses which ones do you want to do ? I'm thinking of doing biology and chemistry as I want to go into dentistry and so I really hope I get an A* in core science as I need at least AB in core and additional science to do them at sixth form I want to go to which is a grammar and so they can't possibly turn me down if I exceed the entry requirements...

I'm doing Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics. It's always good to exceed entry requirements, just do your absolute best and what will happen will happen Dentistry is a good choice, looks very interesting, try to get some work experience/shadowing too when you can :3

I might do maths as my fourth choice but I might just do something like textiles instead as I will be doing 3 hard core Alevels which require a lot of hard work whereas doing textiles may give me a chance to relax a bit ! I'll be doing general studies as well so as long as I'm doing 3 proper As levels then I might just pick something easy for the last choice and yeh as soon as I start sixth form which will be next year in September I will start contacting practices to ask if I can observe or I may contact an orthodontists practice also as I would like to specialise in either this field or cosmetic dentistry ideally and as competition for places is so fierce its crucial that I get as much experience as possible,and if I don't get in then I might just do a general science degree and try and become a science teacher...oh god Im really undecided :/

Which a levels has anybody here chosen?

Will we able to find out the grade boundaries for the exams before we collect our results?

Hi everyone
I'm not looking forward to results day at all! I'm getting really stressed over it and it's always at the back of my mind even when I'm trying to forget about it. I've applied to one of the best sixth forms in the country and thy want over 8A* grades, so I got a conditional offer. When I say some exams they didn't go as well as I thought and it could be te difference between an A and A*. I'm really worried especially since if I do bad I'll feel terrible and my parents will be disappointed. I haw high expectations in myself , as in 10A* or more and it is really hard to do . Can someone offer any advice before I literally die of hyperventilation?
