(...) Also kann ich sie benutzen wie „das“?

Im Grunde genommen ja.Kein Deutscher würde dich deswegen verteufeln. Sollte "das" jedoch eine herausragende Sache betonen, dann würde ich es entweder kursiv oder in Fettdruck setzen: das, oder das. Einige Schreiben den Artikel/Genus auch groß, wenn es z.B. DAS bedeutsamste Ereignis sein soll.

Did you have understand my German explanation well or should I repeat this explanation in English?

(...) Proper and appropriate are largely synonymous in many cases...however proper has a second meaning, meaning 'real' or 'not fake', which is not a synonym of appropriate

For example:

That Gucci watch isn't real! Buy a proper one!
Here, appropriate doesn't work because it's about the watch being fake. 'Proper' here is synonymous of real.

BUT

I want to see appropriate/proper behaviour from you all today.
Here proper and appropriate can both be used to mean correct or adequate in terms of the behaviour.
AND
It's not proper/appropriate to belch whilst having sex.
Here we are again talking about correctness/adequate behaviour whilst have sex.

Not sure if I've explained any of that very well at all - just remember if you're using 'proper' to mean 'not fake', then you can't use 'appropriate'. Other than that, 99% of the time they're interchangeable.

Thanks for your explanations and examples. I must confess that you can explain the English grammar well, if I consider you belongs to Roman language speakers. You are an enormous help!

Aber deine Landessprache als San Marianer ist italienisch oder sehe ich das falsch? Es ist ein eigenartiges Gefühl in meiner Landessprache mit einer auswärtigen Person in einem englischsprachigen Forum zu sprechen.

On the contrary! you speak three (four?) foreign languages, plus your native language, in contrast to me. English is the only foreign language which I speak. Latin doesn't count as foreign language in my point of view. I'm not surprise anymore why you can explain the English grammar, if your nationality is English. By the way what is VN?

Sorry, but I prefer to write in English in an English forum. It's a weird feeling to write in German over here.

I don't really speak them, I just learn them, so I'm not any more special than anyone else. Hahaha, I'm glad my example actually make sense to you, I do worry that I make it more complicated than needs be.

It seems... weird to talk to myself in Spanish. I've tried that before and my mom looked at me as though I were an escapee from a mental hospital. Definitely not recommended. :P Además, necesito un período de descanso, aunque resulte que se me va el español.
