Hi everyone! Don't know about you all but I am now starting to get excited starting this course (remind me later on in the course that I have just written that and you might get a different response!).. i'm struggling with this insert day on the preliminary placement, but I am also hoping to make up the days at the end or throughout the year, hopefully they can be a bit flexible. Are any of you staying in halls? I have just confirmed my room Hope you are all well and looking forward to meeting you all in September, Beth  xx

Hi Beth, As recommended by previous posters have you tried looking into going into a nursery over the inset day(s)? You could get an extra day(s) for the EY foundation that way. That's what I did and have managed to get the full ten days! See you in Sept.
Ross
Hi Ross,
Thanks for getting back so Quickly  the primary school i will be at has a EY setting anyway. From reading the other posts, i think i might ask to go in on the Monday anyway so I can get more information on the school etc and plan.
Thanks for the advice
Beth

Hello,
I just wanted to check that this is the right book for one of the key texts before i buy it as its quite expensive and i also wanted to see whether anyone had found it online. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0415548713/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller=
Thanks

Hi

Yeh that is the correct book. I was lucky in the sense that my

Thanks Jamie for getting back so quick! x
Hi everyone, I am also starting the course in September but am a bit worried as I still have not recieved the prep for the course even though I have passed the professional skills tests and my crb has been sent away, anyone know why this is? Also is there anyone else from Ireland heading over in September? As a lot of the schools in England don't start back to the 9th etc I think I might complete my two weeks over here first then head over for induction, does anyone know if this is allowed?

Thanks, Grainne

I don't think there's been anything major sent out. I just got a few emails from the faculty administrator, mostly with links and forms to send back that were already listed here on the website: http://www.hope.ac.uk/pgceinduction/

As far as I am aware from the preliminary attachment guide, if I remember correctly, you can do your attachments in Ireland. Although there may be extra things you have to do or need to have...can't remember am sorry!

Hope this helps, see you in September.
Ross
Ok, thanks a lot, I think I will e-mail them and see if I can complete the two weeks over here.

See you in September

Hey guys is anybody else specialising in early years? I can't believe how much reading there is, I think il be taking some books to bed with me. So tired at the moment though as I've got a 4 month old who doesn't like sleeping through the night yet. Desperately hoping he decides sleeping in the night is great when I start in September. I'm getting really excited about the course now been so nervous worrying about the workload will be good just to get on and do it.

Hey  how are you getting on with all the reading? I have just spent £130 on all the books :s-smilie: did you manage to get the full 2 week preliminary placement? I could only get 9 days because of an inset day on the Monday, think I might try a nursery for that day

I only really started the reading last week so I haven't got much done so far. I spent around that on the books too :/ the school I'm going to is starting back on the Tuesday so ill only have nine days done, I might ask them can I come in on the Monday anyway even though the children won't be there yet to make up the extra day. I can't wait to the course starts really looking forward to it all

I was thinking of doing that but I'm not sure if the uni would accept it as a day of experience as they were quite specific in the notes as to how many days must be spent with each key stage, although it would be a good opportunity to have a read through all their policies etc. Me too  are you local or moving to halls?

I'm moving into Halls as I'm from Northern Ireland. Have you been speaking with anyone else who is doing the course?

I thought it was quite a lot. Have you chosen a specialist subject yet?

I didn't know we had to chose a specialist subject, when do we need to pick that by? I think if I was to pick any I would go for literacy. Have you picked one?

A girl in admissions told me to pick one so I am assuming that we have to. There is a form online that I filled out and sent to them. I chose Science but I think I'm going to change mine if I can.
