Hi. I didn't know where to post this, but if it's in the wrong place I guess it can be moved to the right place.

I'm doing an EPQ level 3 on scoliosis treatment. Just wondered has anybody had scoliosis. If so could they PM me or post here to tell me what treatment they had.

This is a strange coincidence, I've just started to suspect that I'm developing scoliosis. :eek:

Sorry that I can't really contribute to your poll, but my spine is bent very slightly sideways at around the middle/lower part of my back.

That's ok and you may be - take a trip to your GP, and asked to be referred for x-rays. I did and found I had a tiny curve, which over the years correctly naturally (luckily). If you live near or around London try to be referred to Stanmore Royal Orthapaedics. They are the best.

My sister had surgery for it - but if you catch it early enough and get it seen too, then more often than not you can be saved from having surgery. Had my sister been treated sooner she wouldn't have needed surgery.

Don't get scared or worried. If you catch it early enough then it is no problem. But you can't put off getting to the GP - make an appointment ASAP. My sister waited and year after she discovered it - that's why she had to have surgery. But you might have caught it early enough - I'm no specialist though. It might be nothing, but get yourself checked. It's worth it.

It is probably genetic because my mum has it too.

Hi, I don't have scoliosis but my sister did when she was 13!
She had surgical treatment where they put two rods along her spine and then after surgery she wore a brace :-)

My sister had surgery 4 years ago but for a lumbar curve. Nevertheless if you have any questions just ask. :smile:

Hi, I have scoliosis and i have had no surgical treatment, only x rays and 1 MRI scan :smile:

. If my curve hasn't changed by January 2014 (which is when I have my next x ray), I am discharged from hospital and my scoliosis will just be left alone :smile:

I have it but it's not bad enough to need any treatment. It doesn't affect anything in my life so I just completely forget that I have it, but it did scare me to think that I might have needed surgery (never had surgery before).

Yeah mine hasn't changed much but it has corrected naturally. I did yoga which really helped improve mine, but it may just be coincidence that it corrected when I did yoga.

I have scoliosis and it hurts a lot, my doctor said that scoliosis doesn't hurt but for me it does. Is that normal?

That's exactly what my doctor told me. Before my operation I used to have serious back pain but my consultant was adamant that scoliosis isn't a painful condition. I think he meant that the curve isn't what's causing the pain, rather it's caused by the contortion of the muscles in the area which are being pulled/pushed in unnatural ways.

My sister was in a lot of pain before her surgery. With her the pain was not specifically from the curve but more from it's effects such as her hips were uneven so it made walking painful, among other things.

Yeah she is in no pain at all now. You wouldn't even know she had it done. she can actually live life now, and do things that she couldn't do before, because she was in too much pain.
