Yeah sure

. I've seen one before that the owners didn't want to see. It is just as Tails said but this was a smallish cat so it just got an intravenous injection. It isn't as upsetting as I had initially thought - quite peaceful actually. :smile:

. The amount of parrots I have seen being put on people's shoulders is unreal - it actually annoys me a bit, putting parrots on people's shoulders all day, everyday under the intense sun. Anyhoo, I'll need to bring you back a cheap bead "friendship bracelet" that are like everywhere ahaha! :tongue:

Yeah, why not? I've seen a few. There's not much too see to be honest, they just put the IV line in if they can, inject, wait a few seconds and use a stethoscope to check for a pulse. That's about it. It's very quick.

The one i saw was on a horse. They did that and then shot it in the head to make sure it was definitely dead. (Old fashioned vet)

It will often vary case to case, vet to vet. Some might be concerned about how a work experience student will react - particulary if it was someone who hadn't been there for many days, they didn't know what they were like etc.

Also, some cases can end up very upsetting, depending on the circumstances - I've been very nearly in tears in some PTS's - and sometimes that would be ok - the owner would appreciate knowing you cared etc, and other times it would be inappropriate. It varies so much between cases. As a final year vet student, I still get asked sometimes if I can not come into a consult, or to leave one, that turns out to be a PTS and the vet thinks it will be easier/less stressful for the owner etc, with less people there.

So don't be offended if you are asked to leave the room - more often than not, this is for the owners benefit, not that the vet thinks you can't handle it.

I think Kookabura hit the nail on the head here. I was asked to leave the room for the first PTS I saw during my current placement because the owner was clearly very distressed (and, to be fair, I think that when the owner is upset it makes it harder for onlookers to watch as well. I haven't cried at one (yet?!), but it has been tricky to maintain composure at times). You're right that it's a worthwhile thing to see, though. Emotionally it's going to be one of the hardest things vets have to do, and the sooner you can learn to accept that the better.

Are the GCSE-grades really important? I have only checked Edinburgh and Liverpool, but they seem to only care about physics, maths and English?

I imagine all of you have done a lot better than you think! :biggrin:

Well most of the unis ask for 5 As including science, and I'm assuming that you all are really confident at getting As or even A*s in science whereas I'm borderline A/B so I'm really nervous as it could go either way. So i would have to retake next Year, meaning even more work. And yes PTS means put to sleep.

I sat my highers this year and I can safely say I am not confident that I got five A's, let alone A*'s. I'm borderline too though, especially for maths. Either just scraped an A or missed it by a mark :frown:

I feel so scared. The problem is that I'd be screwed since you cannot retake SGs up here and the unis don't sympathise with retaking highers for some reason. Four days....... FOUR DAYS..... :tongue:

I'm definitely going to study much harder next year!

The "We All Hate Art & It Is a Pointless & Useless Subject Society" will be ready shortly. :wink:

Second last day of exotics vet today :cry:

. There wasn't even any surgery today... boo! The vet did teach me a lot about masticatory myositis and spondylosis which was intersting :biggrin:

. I'm glad I've been making notes... although I think I may have gone a bit OTT... 84 pages is a bit excessive :lol:

You've done fine. Worrying isn't going to change anything. Even ***if*** some of your grades are below what you're expecting it's not the end of the world. GCSEs will be virtually valueless once our A-Levels are done :smile:

Off the top of my head, RVC want 5 A/A*s and Liverpool want at least 10 points, where A*= 2 points and A = 1 point (don't quote me on that, though). As long as you get the basics (A/A*s in maths and sciences) you'll be fine :smile:

So you sat highers this year? I swear I was the only one who wasn't doing GCSE/SG here :P I know, I've booked 2 weeks wex starting on Monday and results day in Tuesday... And to think that my school know I'm screwed already makes me feel rubbish aha
