Why does everyone think the Russell Group is the God league of universities? There are good universities inside it yes, but also some not so good ones in my opinion and then there are also good universities outside of it.
Didn't say it was, just a general statement. More likely to be a good uni in RG than not.
yes, imperial is not as good academically as oxbridge, but there are some of us who can't even get into imperial, and that doesn't mean we don't value education. I've never had an oxbridge person command my respect. if they did, I'd think them a snob. you may judge yourself based on what university you go to, but looking down on other based on that is simply snobbish.
that would explain my original post. but what I'd really like to say is, i do beleive there are plenty of people who are academics but not at oxbridge-level. it's not so bad. I think you could be happy without oxbridge if you just change your mindset a bit
You waiting up for grade boundaries too, AG? My sleeping pattern is screwed up already haha so I thought I might as well. The Oxbridge debate here is not providing much entertainment however
Most of the top engineering firm don't hire from Cambridge because their engineering course I not specialised from the start which mean for example a civil eng firm would want students who had done civil eng at uni and not just straight eng as they wouldn't have covered all the theory that they need to do the job. So really the Cambridge course may be good but it's not a good route into industry.
This guy is making it seem like any Engineering degree not from oxbridge is pants but you're just wrong too -__- Engineering firms would be happy to take on oxbridge graduates I'm sure and certainly wouldn't discriminate against them
Not necessarily. I've never met you but I don't trust someone's own judgement of how intelligent they are.
The only 'out of this world' person I know got rejected. There's some food for thought. Trust me, a lot of people are just hot air. They speak eloquently as if they know everything in the world and often they're just bull****ting but you can't tell because their fancy words have fogged up any meaning. Yes some are amazingly smart, but I don't see what makes them distinct from you. I wouldn't consider myself amazingly smart.
Don't lose faith, you're probably underestimating your own abilities. Thursday shall reveal all - but as with the maths boundaries, I tend to be right (I got the A* boundary on C4 correct to the exact mark, just saying )
Try and calm down and just take it as it comes. We'll discuss your results on/after Thursday, if you're not too busy celebrating, that is
I think if you can do that, you're very intelligence. I can't do that! Many Oxbridgers can. I find that quality impressive.
We'll see. Put it this way, if I get straight As, you probably won't be getting a PM from me.
I don't know. Part of me thinks that if I do get into Oxbridge, I'll realise the reality that Oxbridgers are just normal people who happen to be intelligent and hard-working.
Actually - how would you define intelligence? What makes you think that a person is intelligent?
In a funny way I can see where I'm so academic is coming from. I'm not saying this is her situation but sometimes when you have nothing else going for you, grades suddenly mean everything. I speak from experience and a 4 month stay in a psychiatric unit. Self-hate is poisonous and can really distort the way you see yourself and things around you.
You waiting up for grade boundaries too, AG? My sleeping pattern is screwed up already haha so I thought I might as well. The Oxbridge debate here is not providing much entertainment however
Don't want people lecturing me on self hate and psych wards either, crossed that bridge years ago and after much worse things than disappointing grades
