Annoying UCL

Hello everyone, my name is Richard and I live in East Anglia.

UCL had a deadline for applying to accommodation for the 31st May 2013. I was not aware of this until my friend facebooked me at like 6pm on the 31st. I emailed UCL this morning complaining and they said they had given notice as two lines at the bottom of a letter dated back in December. No notice was given since. This is pathetic because the accomodation didn't open until late march!

Anyway I tried to apply at 6pm on the final day but their website was down! many others had the same issue. i rang them up today and they said there is absolutely no chance of me getting accomodation in ucl.

I am very very angry at UCL for this for improper notice plus no care for prospective students. When I called up the person at the other end of the line swore once and said "theres nothing we can do" before putting the phone down.

Because of this, I live too far away to travel and will not have to go to my insurance UEA. The private sector is not an option for me as the main benefit of going to university is socialising.

Word of advice - care for your students UCL. So very disappointed and angry.

Richard

If anyone has advice Im all ears

If you want to go to UCL, find private accommodation. People that applied on time are being rejected for accommodation so it's not like you're the only one alone in this situation.

UCAS constantly emails me about accommodation in London. Have you received nothing?

I actually hate UCL for this though. They guarantee accomodation for all those who enter? Anyone whos insuring ucl 100% get no accomodation

stupid uni

Don't be angry at UCL because you missed the deadline.

And why on earth wouldn't you call on the 31st May or early June?

This is completely your fault.

oh yeah youre so right. one 2 line set of instructions at the bottom of a letter sent out 6 months before hand, website not working when needed.

and I did for your information. UCL is at fault.

Just focus on finding private accommodation near uni now, complaining is not going to get you anywhere especially on here.

You lose a lot of the social aspects even at private accomdation. Its very expensive in london, up to 2x more than ucl costs plus none is nearby (30 minutes away )

If I was you I would just go for the accommodation that is far cause that will book out soon too and they you may not end up in any accommodation.

my other option is to go to UEA. I worked so hard to get into ucl and this is how they repay me. lying over the phone, swearing and putting the phone down

Its up to you but I would not give up UCL for UEA. I know that they have treated you badly but that was the accommodation department/people. And its not like you don't have any accommodation being offered you can still go to the accommodation which is further away. Its you decision at the end of the day....

Wow, just wow.

If I tell you something 6 months in advance you won't remember it. Especially since accomodation at ucl is much earlier

You mean £220 per week. No student accommodation is going to charge you £1540 a week.

You mean £220 a week? You are clearly just looking for accommodation in Central London. Look in the suburbs obviously.
