Radio 1 has become irritatingly dull. From Greg James' 'going home song' and Matt Edmondson's 'pie-tennis' to the repetitive drivel of the playlist, the daytime schedule makes for painful listening.
Since Ben Cooper became controller a few years ago, they have been intentionally driving out the mature listener - supposedly the over 30s - but at 21 my friends and I are feeling patronised by what the station provides. I've stuck with it because I'm a big fan of Scott Mills (although when he goes, I'm going too) but many people I know are moving over to Kiss or 1Extra, so surely R1 are losing listeners with this policy. I just can't understand why driving out existing listeners is a good way of finding a new audience - surely it would be better to build on your existing base.
However, all that said, the evening schedule is pretty good and relevant (with the exception of Zane Lowe), so maybe some of those programmes should be included in the schedule?
Anyone have the same feeling as me on all this?
