Hi, I've just seen your post and Im in catered at Beaumont (13/14), it wasnt one of my choices but have been given it anyway ... i've no idea about anythign to do with the catering could you help?? Like what meals do you get and stuff like that??

Thankyou

Hey. I had the exact same worries. You have your breakfast and dinner provided. You will have a choice of three mains, one being a veggie option, and then choice of additional food such as potatoes, chips, peas etc. There is also fruit, deserts and salad. The food is okay in truth, you will have some good meals and some not so good but there is always food. I have no regrets about being catered though and it's an excellent social spot to catch up on everyone's days. If you have any more questions feel free to ask

i hope this helps

No it isn't provided but at the weekend you have brunch. You just sort yourself out but I often took bacon/sausage sandwiches out of breakfast for my dinner. What block are you in?

Haha that's a good idea actually, thanks  and I'm in block 8 first floor
Don't worry about it! I used to be particular fussy but I'm so glad I went catered. After a long day at Uni/money is tight you know food is there. Ahhh my old block, you will love it!

I'm going to be doing English  Looks like a lot of Medics on this floor though! So I guess we'll be practically neighbours for a year?

Ohhh nice! And I'm not sure, wonder of there's any more! I think we will:smile:

Hi, i'm going to be in block 8! how're the bedrooms? are the sizes of them reasonable? hows the environment of the place and stuff, and have you got any pictures? also, how far is it from where lectures will mainly be?

ps- i'm corridor 33, room 31! (block 8)

My accommodation offer is for Block 7 Catered even though it wasn't one of my choices. What times are meals served etc. and what are you supposed to do if you don't like the food? (the reason I applied for self-catered). Also, who else is in Block 7 First Floor Corridor 28 and what is it like?

Thought it made sense to quote you all as you are kind of asking the same questions, and the other information might be useful.

Crimmy you will be in the opposite end of the block to where i was. The rooms, in my opinion, are pretty big. We used to watch films in certain rooms and we would fit about ten or more people into the room, which says it all. The big selling point of 8 is the social side, as you will be living with so many people (the biggest block: 30 on each floor), there is always something happening or somebody who you will have things in common with. I was barely in my room last year except for sleeping/working. (It is also very similar with Block 7 as well)

There is plenty of storage as well and the room is what you make of it. There were some cracking rooms which had been decorated and looked very homely. I do have some photos and i will try and upload them in the next comment

In terms of lectures it is either about fifteen minutes on the bus, ten minutes by bike or thirty minutes by walking. There are regular buses running every ten minutes. I used to bike though as that way i could spend more time in bed in the morning. Early lectures you had to leave earlier for the bus.

As for catered meals. The times are (subject to change):
Monday- Fridays:
Hot breakfast: 7:30-9
Cereals/Toast etc:7:30-10
Dinner: 5-7

Weekends
Brunch: 12-1
Evening dinner: 5:30-6:30

Not liking the food is a worry for everyone, me included, and you will never know until you try it. I knew i couldn't do better than what was made for us, and despite how low my money was i always knew there was meals there and coming home from a lecture it was nice to know my dinner would be ready. It is also an excellent social point and i am so glad i ended up catered. The food is okay in truth. Some good meals and some good average meals but there is always choices in terms of meats vs veggie options. Then food like chips, peas, beans, veg etc. Plenty of variety to suit everyone.

I hope this helps. I will upload some photographs in a moment. (Sorry for the essay)

Okay so the first three photographs are of a premium single room. So this will be the same size for the people living in block 6-8. The people in Block 1-5 will have an ensuite. The next photo is of where you will be eating your meals. Photo 5 is of Old Court which includes Block 1-5. The next two photographs are of block 8.

I hope people find these photographs useful and eases their concerns. The grass on both Old/New court which is visible in some photos is excellent in the summer as well.
