Which college seems to be the most popular?

And has anyone who has got a place through adjustment/clearing heard back from their accommodations yet?

From what I've read, Grizedale and Furness seem to be very popular.

I'm in through clearing and I've heard nothing yet. Might be a while.

Hahahaha :') Well apparently I do sound posh according to people here :frown: It's just because I don't have a strong Yorkshire accent like most people here though :') Next to all the southerners at uni I dont expect to sound posh at all! I know it was crazy, although I have a friend who went last year and loved it, just wasnt really for me :')

That'sa shame, yorkshire accents are brilliant! But I know what you mean, i don't have much of a geordie accent, so i sound posh here, but i've spoken to southerners and they generally think i'm fresh off geordie shore or something  It made me think of hogwarts, but i'm told choosing to go to a uni just because it reminds you of a fictional place isn't very bright - killjoys!:')
I was turned down from both Grizedale and Furness so yep those are definitely popular.

Anyone got a welcome pack yet? Ain't received mine :frown:

They aren't always brilliant, they can be awful, especially really broad ones on women who sound like they've smoked for 2372984797 years :') Doesnt help me that neither of my parents have a yorkshire accent, so I just have a kind of generic northern one :') hahah indeed! it was just too isolated for me, like a little bubble :')

yes exactly! :') and i know, it's such a shame! it's literally only a problem we have in england. in america they learn spanish, chinese, french, and in europe, english and i think swedish is mandatory in finland, but we don't put enough effort in. and it does! (well there's a uni in austria - graz) i can't wait till my 3rd year it's going to be brilliant :') and yeah, i'm definitely gonna tell the manager to keep me in mind if they need anybody over the summer (i've already offered christmas time!) pot washers come and go like nothing! always need one :') and yeah i mean accommodation is cheaper here than it would have otherwise been, so i've saved a few pennies there, literally probably only pennies! still skint. :') mine almost doesn't! if i hadnt got my first choice at YSJ i'd be well and truly screwed! but here i applied for the second cheapest and cheapest. everything else left me with hardly any money! my bedroom now i can't even lie down in with my bed and drawers, so i really don't care! :') ah i'm so excited got my freshers guide and "guide to year one" in the post this morning! :')

I suppose everyone in the UK just assumes that people will speak English wherever they go, and so they make less of an effort learning other languages! Austria looks beautiful, you'll have a great time  The year abroad was one of the things that put me off doing a languages degree because I think I'd get far too homesick, I've never even been abroad on holiday so it would be a massive shock to the system for me!

Loads of places need extra workers for over Christmas so you should be fine then! Ah well, pennies make pounds as my nanna always says  2nd year should hopefully be a bit cheaper if I find some off campus accommodation, although some student houses can be really daggy- my sister was at Durham and she lived in a student house in her second year with an infamous "damp room"! I'm staying in an ensuite because although it's more expensive I wouldn't want to put anyone through the trauma of sharing a bathroom with me  When do you find out which accommodation you've got?

I got the welcome pack thing too! I've already highlighted all the events I need to go to :colondollar: With all the socials at night as well we're going to be rushed off our feet!

Mmm, you certainly will.
Pff, still haven't heard back from accommodation and I firmed Lancaster.

Anyway, I hope all the people on the Linguistics course will be nice to a rather odd looking Welshman

Nor have I. It is slightly disconcerting. I know they're still being allocated but it almost feels as though you're slipping further down the pecking order.

Aye, it all feels like you're kind of being forgotten about.

Which college/what type of accommodation did you apply for mate?

It could be that your room/college choice was quite popular and they're waiting to see if someone fails to pay their deposit before assigning you an alternate choice.

It was studio in either Grizedale or Pendle, but I'll be equally as happy with en suite. I've looked at the pages on Facebook and Twitter, from which I've been able to garner that they're being worked through over the next couple of weeks. By which method do you suppose rooms are allocated? Students entering through Clearing are already having their rooms confirmed.

I got my offer today and quite frankly I'm annoyed because its much more expensive than I can afford. I applied before the deadline, and didn't get either of my two choices, how on earth does that work?

I got my offer, too. Didn't get either my first or second. They say nothing can really be done since the ones i applied for are the most popular! Still, atleast it is an en-suite so i am happy.

It's somewhat catastrophic being allocated unaffordable accommodation. I phoned the Accommodation Office earlier and they said I was next on the list, which should be tomorrow. The method of allocation feels like lottery: a randomised list of names on a randomised order of lists.
