Just curious as to what branch of engineering and universities everyone's applying to :biggrin:

I myself am applying for aerospace engineering at Imperial, Bristol, Bath, Southampton, and Manchester.

Interested in Mech Eng, yet to decide from Aston,Cardiff, Lincoln,Liverpool,Manchester, Nottingham, Sheffield and Warwick. Not sure of predicted grades until I start school again.

I'm most likely to go for mechanical engineering but I really would like to keep the option for automotive/aerospace engineering. They seem to have so many common modules and some universities even let you choose aerospace/automotive modules in year 3 and 4 with a mechanical engineering degree but its not made very clear. Every so often I consider civil engineering as well.

Right now, I'm considering applying to Bath, Bristol, Cambridge, Southampton and Surrey. If I somehow manage to get an offer from Cambridge, I won't have to worry about specialising until year 3 but that is a long shot.

I'm having a lot of trouble with my personal statement as well, as I only recently finalised my decision to do engineering and so don't have much to put except that I enjoy maths and physics and even showing that is not so easy when you have to prove it lol. Reading some off the personal statements online only makes it worse as they seem so perfect...

I think you should definitely try and find a field of engineering you want to specialize in as soon as possible. The personal statement is really a way to show how much you love the subject you have chosen, so those who seem to be undecided are less likely to be offered places, especially when it comes to universities like Cambridge where there are 10 applicants per place, all with 7 odd A*s in their GCSEs.

As far as employability goes, I've heard Aeronautical, Automotive, and Mechanical are considered virtually identical, and if you truly don't like your branch you can always switch.

I'm pretty much set on mechanical engineering, its just that I find the others attractive as well. I wish there were more highly ranked universities doing the same structure as Cambridge, letting you specialise in year 3 after having a feel for all the fields.

I'm still mostly worried about my personal statement, never been good at talking or writing about myself.

Mechanical M Eng, probably staying in Scotland. Doing open days currently.
Looking at Heriott Watt, Strathclyde, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Robert Gordon and Glasgow. Where it exists probably going for the mech eng with management/ financial management, or maybe mech eng with sustainable energy at Ed.

I´m applying for Engineering to Cambridge but I´m not sure about the other 4 universities (Aerospace engineering): Imperial, Bristol, Southampton, Sheffield, Brunel, Manchester, Bath... (I have to think about it, if someone can give any advice...)

PD: I´m an international student.

Hello,

At the moment I am deciding what course I should do for university. Chemical Engineering and Engineering in general popped up and was suggested by my teachers. Initially, I was being pulled into doing Biochemistry or Biomedical Sciences. But, because of my AS results, me suprisingly loving maths at the moment as well as now physics being my strongest subject, I am definately considering Engineering.

My AS results are:

Biology - B (72%)
Chemistry - B (72%)
Maths - B - (78%) 6 UMS off of an A
Physics - A (81 %)

I have re-taken my Y12 year again and before had BCDE (bio,chem,maths,physics).
I have no idea whether I'd be a good enough applicant for the ChemEng course. What I am most scared of is the fact that I'm a female and its a male dominant field. I have no workexperience linked to the course, and no direct achievements relavent to the course. Can someone please give me some advice? Will I be able to get into a good university? And if so which universities should I apply to.

P.S Im also considering Biomedical Engineering/ Medical Engineering

I don't think that will be a major problem - three years ago I finished an all-girls middle school, started male-dominated (about 75%) high school and I didn't really have any issues coping with that. I suppose it will be similar at university, so don't worry!

You've got good grades there, shame that Maths has let you down slightly. I wouldn't rule off Bristol, Imperial or Southampton if you think you can get the A* in Maths (or Physics), however with January exams disappearing, it makes the decision much harder going into summer exams.

Have you looked at Brunel or Bath? Also what are you going to apply for BEng or MEng? Southampton does a foundation year leading to a BEng or MEng where the typical offer is BBB and with most courses you can go from BEng to MEng if your marks are above a certain percent.

I am looking at Aerospace with Bath, Bristol, Sheffield, Brunel and Loughborough in mind, although my offers are slightly different due to being a Welsh student with the Welsh Baccalaureate.
