Freshers week 2013

I'm going to study at Lancaster this year but I'm not staying on campus. I wanna take part in freshers week but feel like I won't have anyone to go with as I won't be living on campus.

Hi there, I am going to study at Lancaster this year but I am not staying on campus and would like to know if there is anyone who knows (from last year or any info they found online) how freshers week will be arranged. Will I still have a chance to get to know people before freshers week? I feel like everyone will get to know people on campus and will have someone to go to events with to meet new people but as I am not staying on campus I don't want to go to any events alone obviously. I would really appreciate meeting any freshers for Lancaster before freshers week at like a welcome evening before university begins? But don't know if Lancaster do this. I so wanna take part in freshers week but feel like I won't have anyone to go with as I won't be living on campus. HELP?

Hi!

I'm assuming you are an undergraduate. Have you seen the threads other undergraduates have been talking in? They are probably arranging a meeting so you should talk to them. See this thread, for example.

Also, there is a Freshers' Guide here with information on how the week will be organised.

I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities to make friends. Everyone will be in the same boat and even if you don't live on campus you can go to the activities or even just say hi.

Best of luck ^^

Thanks so much, just worried I'll have to arrive to the activities alone! Lol thanks for your fast response.

Hi there! I'm in the same position - I won't be living on campus either. My main worry at the minute is that this will be where people meet each other before freshers week begins, and I'll miss out on that. At least I'm not the only one in this position!

Each college will have opportunities for students living off campus to meet the people within the college during freshers weeks. Living off campus is definitely a little harder in terms of meeting new people, but you will be sure to make friends from within your course, as well as your college during freshers week.

Thank you for the information, it's good to know that there will be other chances to meet people other than on campus.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I know that during freshers week we will have opportunities to meet everyone but I have been worrying that when everyone is moving in, they will meet someone to go to all the events with but I am going to have to arrive alone!!!! Which college have you applied for?

Yeah that what I'm worried about - meeting people before freshers week to go to the events with. I don't think I'm quite brave enough to turn up alone haha. I've applied for Grizedale and Furness. It was pretty difficult to know where to apply to seeing as I won't be actually living there. What about you?

Yeah same, I didn't really know which ones to go for.. I've applied for Lonsdale and Grizedale though. Are you going to be living at home or just going for other accommodation?

I know this is a bit late but I'm the same as you guys.. I did apply to live in the colleges on Campus at first but things fell through so now I will be living off campus and I was worried about these concerns too. I'm glad I'm not the only one no more. But atleast now, if we can't meet new people who are living on campus during Freshers' Week then all us undergraduates living off campus will just have to meet up instead. Atleast that way we can make it look like we're not alone  Haha

Me too!
I won't really be surprised if us lot on here ends up meeting cause everyone else has already created their friends and groups haha... if I see someone walking around alone, and looking lost. I'll assume it's one of you :P

Woo another person! haha  I think it would be a good idea to meet up together, seeing as we're all in the same boat. Then at least we can have a chance to meet some new people without the scary though of turning up alone.

I completely agree, that way then we won't look like complete losers, plus we won't worry about being alone, therefore we'll end up enjoying our time more. Haha

Does anyone know what kind of events are arranged? I got my freshers week timetable but tbh it's kinda vague? Maybe I'm missing something?

The freshers guide is like for everyone in general your college will have more fun n specific events. Check Facebook they should be posting new info in like 2 weeks.

Does anyone know how much money they're likely to be taking for Freshers' week specifically? (i.e. money that isn't for the rest of the term)

I think most of the events are preplanned so like just buying a ticket online covers it all apart from like more drinks and stuff. And I think when u arrive u can pay for a wristband really cheap, my college is £5 (dunno bout other colleges) but that gets you into all the events so all you need to pay for is anything else u want during the events!
