The Godfather: The most boring film ever made....

It's almost cool to like this film. To have seen it. To talk about it. To have it in your collection. Who doesn't? Well, I don't - because I'm not buying it. I mean, let's face it, it has nothing to do with reality. It moves slowly, almost no action, and the drama that is there......is so artificial that it's not worth the time by a longshot. And oh, the time... The first one is 175 minutes of pure bore, the other not far off.

OK sure you believed all the hype and you own it as well. How often do you watch it? Do you ACTUALLY think that this triology enriches your life?

Fair enough.

I'm personally not the type to re-watch or re-read stuff. Did enjoy the Godfater tremendously, nonetheless. Wouldn't go as far as say it enriched my life though.
I preferred the second one to the first, when I finally understood what was going on...

People don't like it because they feel like they're supposed to, but because it stands the test of time, and it didn't benefit from any hype or Internet buzz ... you see it once, twice and as soon as you get the story and the main plot, you realize how brilliant it is.
For some, it's not greatness-in-your-face material, it takes some time to appreciate it.

Me.....right from the very first scene, I was hooked. The next 3 hours....didn't realize where the time went. The more I watch it the more I am in awe of how amazing it is.

It's decent, but its not the best. More appreciable than enjoyable.
I started watching the first one, and an hour in I was so bored I stopped watching. I guess it's for some people more than others.
I fell asleep the first time I watched it but that's only because I thought it would be a good idea to watch a 3 hour film after being awake for 18 hours. The only thing I didn't like about it (and this was continuous through Part II too) was the timing of the subtitles. I swear half of them were missing

Other than that? Upon re-watching them I discovered that they are fantastic films. If you don't like slow epics then it wouldn't surprise me that you think it's bad, but it tells one hell of a story.
Very overrated film. I wouldn't say it was bad, but it's nowhere near as good as people make it out to be.

I'd rather watch Goodfellas over Godfather any day.

I like the part where Sonny gets shot to death. He's like dancing and screaming it's hilarious.

Also, I couldn't understand a single word Brando was saying and had to turn on subtitles.

I agree with you, to an extent at least. It's often called the best gangster film of all time (sometimes even the best film of all time) but I'd give that title to Goodfellas, it's so much more engaging.

I'd say Goodfellas trumps The Godfather.
But it still deserves an honourable mention

Yeah that's what I'm saying. I prefer Scorsese over Coppola as a director generally as well.
Empire top 500 disagrees with you.
The first is good, second okay and the third well... the less said the better.
My favorite film of all time...
I really like it. It's a film that had to be done quite slowly, the characters had to be developed and I find constant action in films quite off-putting anyway. I read the book before seeing the films so I understood the whole story right away, but perhaps for someone watching for the first time it does take a while to set the scene. It's like a lot of longer films (Once Upon a Time in America, for example) in that it spends a fairly long time on the characters as well as the story, and that quite appeals to me.

I wouldn't say I like it because it's hyped, indeed there are many hyped films which I dislike, I just enjoyed it. It's probably in my top 50 (1&2 were very good, 3 made my face hurt).

I don't think Empire has ever been the most reliable of sources regarding films...
Time Out has it as the no. 2 film of all time

I love The Godfather. Goodfellas will always be my favourite gangster flick though.

Shawshank is overrated. It's a solid 8/10.
