Question! Does anyone here by any chance knit? The KnitSoc at Uni looks rather wonderful and I quite fancy it but it's been an age since I did it :colondollar:

I haven't knitted for a while. I should really start again. I keep starting projects and not finishing them :erm:

Now there's another society I slightly regret not really looking into at uni :sigh:

They should've friendly and helpful... In theory anyway.

My advice would be to go along to one or two meetings of any societies you're thinking of getting involved in and see what it's really like. Don't pay to join until you're sure though... :yep:

In the end they didn't give me the college I wanted so was initially gutted... But have been looking into the one they gave me and it looks really nice; it's small which is what I wanted, and apparently very friendly so feeling happier now :smile:

Ha, see i'm the exact opposite, I like the quietness of a Quaker service or the subdued nature of high Anglican :lol:

When people stand up to speak I feel sort of awkward. Although atleast at my uni there's a few groups which specifically portray themselves as charismatics so hopefully yours will too.

Not sure what a knitting society would be but I guess mainly social knitting? Sounds good either way and you'd pick it up again quickly if you practiced...

It's interesting, you got some fairly different things out of the same passages :biggrin:

I think what we get out of passages will always be influenced by what we already know and what we're going through at the time :yep:

anything particular that jumped out at you today?

Basically they meet up at a pub or SU and knit, chat and eat and teach those who aren't experienced. Plus they do the occasional charity events like a 12 hour knit-a-thon, visit to craft fairs, competitions, all that fun stuff. It's actually really nicely thought out :3

With a set time each week to knit, you're more likely to finish. You can also ask advise on things if you get stuck. My big problem is sewing up at the end... I have some fingerless mitten things that I really need to finish, but I just haven't got around to it. Given that I started them before last Christmas... *cough*

Ooh, I should start planning and making Christmas presents. With a set end date for them, I'm more likely to get things done!

Consistently: Cathsoc,
sporadically: archaeology soc, union society (I enjoyed the debates, and went to some of the events), Tory soc
First year I did some music stuff - a choir an an orchestra, but didn't really do anything much after that - I quite regret that too, but there's just not enough time for everything!
Final year I got involved in ballroom dancing. Absolutely loved it and really wish I'd got involved in that earlier. :dancing:

Alas all the uni specific religious socieites seem very evangelical and charismatic which doesn't suit stuffy Anglican me :tongue:

Cath-Chap looks good though and heck yeah free food, plus St Peter's Chaplaincy is like 1 minute away so at the very least i'll try and make as many services as study will allow.

Archeology sounds good! Ours is really proud of the fact that if you join you get a card which gets you discounts on alcohol :rofl:

The archeology is rather secondary.

Alas I don't think I could join a political one, I lean towards socialism and yet I have no affection to the socialist party. Pretty typical really :tongue:

Although they have an anti-capitalist society so if I change my avatar to an anarchist symbol, you know i've joined :lol:

The music socs really make me wish I learnt an instrument but alas I could never afford it. We had a guitar but it was so big my hands couldn't reach all the chords :rolleyes:

Did violin a bit but it was too expensive and if I had to sing in tune one more time I would have screamed :mmm:

Right now i'm thinking about:
NurseSoc (obviously)

Motion Picture
Religion and Theology Soc
Documentary Film Soc
Warpef (sci-fi and fantasy)

There's others too but it's hard to tell how active they are, but it's fair to say that's enough :teehee:

I've thought a bit lately about how the historical evidence to the resurrection is so wonderful. But reading 1 Chronicles 1 was a reminder that the Old Testament is also rooted in historical fact - I find it easy to forget that!

I was christened as a kid but my family was never religious. I've recently found God again though, and now I want to start going to church and getting a bit more into it. The thing is, its all so confusing :/ what are the differences between all of the different churches? I've just moved to a new town for uni, and there's like 6 different types. I, too, would hesitate about going to see the CU. As an organisation, it tends to the evangelical and dismisses everything else. I can't say that I'm a fan.

Naturally, I recommend the Eastern Orthodox Church. Orthodoxy is where it's, at.
