Yeah the book is massive! I ordered it from the book depository and it came in a box lol.
if you log into your mmu account / moodle where you have to put your Id and password, if you have a look through the stuff on there you should find an online handbook which had about 40 pages, scroll down to almost the end and the reading list will be there
Is anyone going to the barbecue on Saturday or Sunday? I know a couple people mentioned it before

Ahh, I've found it down, page 25 in the students handbook. You can download the handbook so you always have it.
I'm not going to the BBQ, I have an open day on the saturday (got to start thinking about 3rd, 4th and 5th options) and I go to London on the saturday :frown: So I'll just have to wait until the induction day to meet people.
I have booked a ticket for Alton Towers though if anyone's going to that. It was so cheap, and I've not been in a while.

Yeah I'm still not sure which things I'll go to in freshers week, I'm gonna be commuting so some of the night ones might be difficult to get back from, though I think Alton Towers and the BBQ would be good  and yeah I've been thinking about open days too, does anyone know what kind of course they want to apply for next year?

I'll be commuting so i probably will find it hard getting back from night time ones. I think i'll go to the BBQ though,
I hadn't even thought about the open days! not sure what i want to apply for next year yet, have you got any ideas?
I can't go to the BBQ :frown: unfortunately my job calls. So I'll be the same on meeting people on induction :smile: And I'm not sure about what to do next year, I'm going to see what I'll enjoy most on the foundation, enough that I'll want to 'specialise' in, but I guess that's what this year is all about :}

Well I know I'll be going for fashion, the reason I'm doing the foundation is so that I can get into Central Saint Martins. Like hardest thing I'll ever be doing in life but you know. I'm just looking for back up plans, so I was looking at Huddersfield, De Monfort, Leeds, Uclan and obviously MMU. I just don't know where to start having never been to an open day.
Yeah, I won't be doing any late nights, it would be impossible for me to get home. And I'm not a big late-nighter anyway.
But I'm definitely going to Alton Towers so if anyone's going it'd be great to see you there.
And we'll all see each other on the induction, if we can guess who each other are.

I applied to CSM to do my foundation course, got a portfolio review but got rejected, luckily I got my place at mmu!
ive not booked to go on the Alton towers trip, so it looks like I'll be seeing most of you at induction  any one know how many people are on our course?
Hey guys!! My friend has made a Facebook page for fellow Art Foundationers because we couldn't find another one!

Here is the link  https://www.facebook.com/groups/217352525097216/

St martins would be amazing for fashion! I'm not completely sure what I want to do, maybe architecture or something design-related but I think I'll see how foundation goes
and I might be able to go to the BBQ but otherwise I think I'll be the same seeing everyone at Induction
Ah that's useful, thanks!
Ah that's really cool, I'm also thinking of architecture or something design related after my foundation! Possibly interior design! However I'm thinking of continuing it on at mmu :-)

That's great! I've joined your group
Yay!!

I'm also thinking about doing Architecture after the foundation year but when my mum and I went to see the MMU degree show it was pretty clear that I much prefer textiles/fashion. I'm still not sure but the fact I ran around getting all like SERIOUSLY excited about the sewing/knitting/weaving machines and not so excited about all the architecture stuff kinda said a lot...

I know what you mean, I thought all the sewing machines and things were amazing when I went! And I got really excited by all the ceramics and things in the 3D design but I'd never really thought of that before! I'll probably end up changing my mind completely by the time we apply!

I like the 3D design stuff too, I might end up doing that next year  some of ceramics were amazing and the fashion stuff was too
Forgot that I made this! I should be at one of the BBQs, maybe both if I've got work because I'll be flyering for 42's, so if I am I'll pop in when I finish.

I ended up doing a digital piece for 175, mapping all the public junctions coming out of the new building in layers, only showing the 10th layer of junctions (the layer that makes 175) and the future decisions coming from that, so it explodes from what created it but it only shows the present state. I've done a bit of a powerpoint showing my development with it but nothing big, and I haven't researched any artists either. I'm glad we're all taking different approaches with it.

I'm a bit stuck for the camera, because both of mine are broken! I think I might try and make some infographics about the different settings they've asked for or something.
Don't stress too much about what you make for the first project. Iirc, when my son did this course, what they made was really only used as a bit of an ice breaker. There wasn't anything right or wrong about it.
I'm definitely going to the BBQ on Sunday and to that paint party thing in the evening (i'm both really excited and terrified at the same time :"))

Woah that sounds so good Nathan! I agree, I think it'll be really interesting to see how different everyone's projects turn out like  can't wait to see them all!

Hi, I'm starting in September on the foundation at MMU too! I'm also living at home, I'll be getting the train everyday :/ I intend to specialise in Fashion.
I've got my enrolment and summer project stuff today. I've been trawling the internet for inspiration. 175 is such an odd name for a project, it's just as vague as the 24 project we had to do before. I really don't know where to start and I've got other stuff to do at the same time.
No summer for me I guess.
The name's Kate by the way.

Hi! By now m guessing u must have completed your foundation at MMU. however m trying to enroll for the foundation at mmu this sept, and theres this Foundation diploma (edexcel level 3 BTEC) in art and design and also the International foundation in art and design by INTO STUDY MANCHESTER in partnership with MMu which is also located within MMu campus. M kinda confused how are they both any different? And was wondering which would be better? Thanks
