Everytime I try to answer a question in Maths I get it completely wrong. I should just live in this corner of the forums instead. :ninja::tongue:

But what a happiness does it give when you finally find the correct solution. :smile:

Any chance of getting some urgent help? :colondollar:

How would I solve:

e^2x = 3e^-1/4

Thanks! :biggrin:

Sure - is that: e2x=3e14e^{2x}=3e^{-\frac{1}{4}} ?

If so, start off by taking the natural log of both sides. :smile:

Yeah, that's it. Okay, but what happens when the e and ln cancel? I.e what happens to the three?

Remember: ln(ab)=ln(a)+ln(b)\ln(ab) = \ln(a) + \ln(b)

So:

ln(3e14)=ln(3)+ln(e14)=ln(3)14\ln(3e^{-\frac{1}{4}})=\ln(3) + \ln(e^{-\frac{1}{4}})=\ln(3) - \dfrac{1}{4}

That settles it!

Further Maths, the three sciences and French AS, that's enough...
