I'm looking forward to it, but as it's getting closer I'm getting nervous about drinking and clubbing. I'm hoping I find people that don't want to do all of the planned evening events and who want to do other things instead. How are you feeling about it all?
Yeah same really. I am planning to go to a couple of the nights out and see how it goes but I'm nervous about the whole getting drunk culture. I'm looking forward to finding out what these other day time events are and to joining some societies. Have you got any societies in mind that you want to join?
Hi. I've just joined so sorry if I post this in the wrong place! I've just started at Aberystwyth University and I'm a non-drinker too. I only drink water. I've been out with my roommates and they don't judge at all about it. They even made me join their drinking game and gave me a glass of water which turned out to be really fun Although I was worried beforehand so far most people are understanding and respect that not everyone likes/wants to drink alcohol and you can still enjoy yourself without it. Hope this helps
I'm band D in University Court, how about you? We should definitely try to gather all the non-drinkers/infrequent drinkers sometime during freshers week and go out if we're all close by!
Hey I'm another non drinker going to Surrey. I'm staying in Manor Park studying law with criminology.
Awesome I hope someone does end up creating that non-drinkers fresher group that they were talking about on Facebook Otherwise we'll have to do it ourselves
Either way, my friends who have started at other Universities that also don't drink - don't seem to be having any problems, so hopefully we'll be fine
Don't know if this is the right place to put it but in general do people start to slow down through freshers.
I am fine with drinking, and have been drinking a sociable amount, but feeling like not getting to know my flatmates that well as they never remember a lot of what we talk about!
Ahh cool, I'm in block B so I think we'll be quite living quite near each other! I'm hoping so too, have you any idea what they are? Presumably the freshers ticket involves the alternative events as well? The only one during the week that I'm considering going to is the James Bond Casino night, what about you? Btw, nice to know that there is someone else in James!
Oh right. Yeah I think so! I'm not sure about the alternative events-I'm sure I read somewhere on Facebook that there could be bowling and laser quest, but I'm not sure. I hope the ticket includes the alternative events! I'm not sure which of the evening events I'll do, but I'll probably do one or two. Haha, yes! I'm glad I found people on this thread!! Are you on the facebook pages?

Yeah I'll probably go on a couple of the nights out so I can meet people. Yes hopefully the other events will be good. I'm not too sure about which societies I want to join. I want to join the CU and I think I'm automatically a member of the economics society because of my course. Otherwise, I'm planning on going to the freshers fair and then deciding. Have you got any in mind that you want to join?
Anyone else Cambridge-bound and would like to stay as sober as possible? I suppose Cambridge is probably one of the unis most likely to have a decent proportion of non-drinkers, but I'm still a little worried. Also going tee-total has been quite a recent life decision for me... it's going to sound awful but I'm not sure how I'm going to make friends / hang out with strangers in an effort to make friends with them without alcohol, how do you do it?! Any advice appreciated
