Can anyone recommend a good film or programme suitable for French learners? I'd really appreciate it.

:mmm: exactement!

:frown:

Goedemiddag, boumavilla

Mijn nederlands is oké.

VIS!
ALS IK JE IN MIJN HANDEN KRIJG, DAN ZOU HET JOUW VERJAAARDAG NOG LANG NIET WEZEN! :colone: muhahahahahahahahh

Is that a Dutch saying? :mmm:

Original post by thatitootoo
'Je' means 'you' in Dutch
When I said "je can" I was thinking about the Dutch "je kan"
But "tu peux" is what I should have written to ye

Ik begrijp dat. :mmm:

I confuse them, but if I concentrate it'll be okay.

Aaah, Chinese is SO difficult.

That it is, especially character acquisition. It just makes it better when you get stuff right though

The sucky thing is I haven't opened my textbooks since getting to Spain 5 weeks ago and I'd been slacking for weeks even before then. They're currently sat on my desk neglected and I don't want to open one for fear of realising just how detrimental the break has been!

Edit: Just had to reopen this reply and correct a bunch of errors. That's how you know the Spanish life is taking effect; my English grammar is taking a beating

Pourquoi?!

I won't try and speak Spanish now but, it must bar awesome!

Echt waar?

 The Dutch saying is "Dan ben je nog lang niet jarig!" but as always, Thatitootoo likes to mould & twist authentic idioms and make them his own! zowel in het Engels als in het Nederlands en Duits

I know, I'm going to take of of my Chinese textbooks along to a cafe shortly and finally face the music :frown:

(I'm assuming from your reply that you'll be able to understand the above, let me know if you don't!)

What are your language aims anyway? Are you learning for your own gratification or is there a higher purpose?

No hablo español pero lo entendí  pienso...

I knew you were talking about Chinese books. How old are you then?

Aims... I want to be like B2 (like can speak easily and convey ideas. Not always technically able, like philosophy I wouldn't be able to do but good enough to try) if that's B2  in French, Spanish and Italian...then learn basic Chinese Mandarin and German. I find them so interesting, and it feels amazing talking to someone in a different language.

B2 is A-level standard. I've seen the table myself before. :yep:

I totally agree, I love that I'm able to speak Spanish with people. It takes away such a huge barrier and also makes people much more accepting/friendly because they appreciate the effort and don't see me as a tourist. How would you say you are at the moment, got a long way to go or feeling pretty confident?

I'm 21 and in my third year of university. Aiming to have C1 in Spanish, B1-2 in Chinese Mandarin and B2 (through a miracle) in French by the time I'm 25. Then during that time I guess I'd like to start bringing in some other languages in moderation, just to tourist level, so that if I'm travelling for work or in general I am able to get by with basic tasks. Did you get yours through education or family? Or are you self studying your way through some?

It's amazing :moon: like, it's... Just like, when you speak to someone in their own language, it's such a token of respect, and it's quite warming :ahee:

Spanish and Italian are abysmal in terms of a conversation because I don't know any words... Grammar wise they're decent though!

French I'd say, I'm pretty confident with but I find when I speak I can't think of what I want to say, even though I can anywhere else which is really annoying but yeah, I'm confident with that, hoping for a B2 at the end of a year. I'd love a C1 eventually but... Yeah

Well self study if I'm honest. French I do as an a level now, but the others will be self taught :yep:

If those are the right words
