What?
So after playing Dutch music earlier...
I've found the snake in the hallway, escaping from my place this morning! He was so tiny though!!! - looked more like a big worm tbh
Anyway...appropriate measures have been taken! And the snake has a new loving home (a good distance away from me and my Dutch music) now. Jeder freut sich

Speaking of fluency...

Spoiler

What does everyone think fluency means?

I saw a website the other day, and it doesn't mean having a mother tongue, it's not quite as advanced as everyone thinks.

But having a good degree of proficiency - ie, able to communicate well with another individual and able to understand what someone is saying with minimal assistance.

On the A1-C2 chart, you're probably looking at B2. :h:

Well, when I speak of fluency I mean speaking it like a native speaker or almost like one. I'm wrong then.
Would the correct word for it be native-speakerish? :P

The only Dutch music I know that isn't in English is Heidevolk. I'm not a big fan of them, but they're alright and they help you learn the language! :h:

Mother tongue would be the "native-speakerish" level. It's not so easy to get to that level when you're not from the country!

:woo: Romanian! I would love to learn it, and Swedish as well actually, but I'm already learning quite a few- French, Italian and Mandarin actively, but I also do little bits of Spanish (which I studied before in school), German, Esperanto and Welsh  Some could say I'm crazy too!

I'm on a native-speaker level in German, I could help you
I considered Welsh too, but I'd get too confused with everything :frown:

How do you start German? I never get round to it.

That's the first said right?:smug:

Nope. Germans wouldn't recognise me as a non-native.
A few years ago I moved to Frankfurt with very little to no knowledge of German. After a year I was top of (native-speaker) German class at my school and it only improved.
I found it easy, but probably because I was 9 back then and it's not hard at that age.

Der die das?
Nonono, don't start worrying about it at such an early stage.
Umm, what about starting with the alphabet and pronunciation and then simple verbs?

Oh no. Even native-speakers sometimes struggle with it.
I don't really know. I just started learning it because I lived there and I didn't speak any German until that point.

Odd, that...

Have you considered applying a Germanic language to it? You, know, like, erm, English?

Also it's das Kind and die Kinder.

I think that perhaps you'll pick it up if you have a go. Like I have managed to stop handing in French homework with German word order. Because I have been (sort of) trying!

I'm tempted to actually learn German which is annoying me because I feel it'll end badly.

Okay. I'll start.

I want to go to sleep.

Word order = ?

ich will zu schlafen gehen. I'm carefully avoiding introducing a separable verb to you here!

Ich (pronoun) will (auxiliary verb) schlafen gehen (verbs?!).
If you'd ask
'Do I want to go to sleep?', it would be:
Will ich schlafen gehen?
Then the pronoun is after the auxiliary verb.

Wrong!
Don't include the 'zu'.
If you tried to sleep you'd use it.
Ich versuche, schlafen zu gehen.

Anfangen is separable right? I remember that

Why is:

I want to go to sleep = I will sleep

IT IS INDEED!

This is fun!

'will' - 'wollen' = to want to

so: I want = ich will
& I will = Ich werde
Simples
