Most people will just refer to it as politics and philosophy rather than BASS to be honest. There's a full list of TSRians with interviews and offers in the first page of this thread. There are quite a few offers from the School of Social Sciences already

If you've got any questions about the politics side of the course I can probably answer though as I'm a third year politics student at Manchester.

Whatever the lady from SoSS was saying, people (both applicants and students) tend to just refer to it by course name (e.g. politics and philosophy). Not that you were to know that!

I do like my course. You can use up as much space in this thread as you like with questions, or you can start a new thread in the Uni of Manchester forum, with a title along the lines of 'Questions about BASS Politics & Philosophy' :smile:

You look like you're using TSR fine to me. It takes a while to get the hang of it, but it's fairly simple once you know what you're doing :yes:

I received an offer for Physics too! They invited me to an interview but, as I am an EU applicant and there weren't any flights to Manchester on that day, they said that they would be able to make me an offer without me going there first!
However, the conditional offer now is quite high! I guess it wouldn't be that high if I went to the interview!

Sent my UCAS off on Friday, got an acknowledgement from Manchester on Monday.

Applied to: Cell Biology with 1 year industrial/research placement (4 years)
Typical offer: AAB-ABB

I'm predicted A*AB but I got ABC at AS... not sure whether if they consider me what my offer will be? Think I may need to be interviewed as well?

Anyone else applied to this course/heard from Manchester for similar courses?

I'm so impatient, my life revolves around me refreshing track at the moment!!! :tongue:

No way of knowing what your offer would be - we're not admissions tutors, so don't have access to all the info on that one, I'm afraid.

Life Sciences does seem to be interviewing most people this year, though apparently the interviews are nothing to be worried about - quite relaxed and informal (and by the sounds of it, more aimed at making you want to come to Manchester than anything else). Great! Just looked at that thread, the interviews dont seem very stressful which is good, I'm always thrown off when I'm under pressure!

Yes. It isn't like an Oxbridge interview though and whether you get an offer or not will not be based on the interview (that's what they said). Probably just to decide if A*AA or A*A*A offer.

I'm nervous for the interview :/ Any pro tips? I'll have a good read around interview tips and tricks and about the Uni, of course. But TSR are the knowledge, after all :P I'm unsure which I'll firm at this point, I live very close to Manchester and am looking to get further away, but I know it's a fantastic university. I've still to see two universities on my list though so I'll hold deciding until I've seen them!

EDIT: Aaaaand I've just seen the interview thread. Shall check it out. But still, any pro tips? :P

Keep calm, remember that they aren't trying to catch you out, have a look at the modules on offer (so you can say that you want to come to Manchester because they do a lot of modules on X, Y and Z), work out why else you might want to come to the university (liked it on the open day, great city to live in, etc.) and all that sort of thing. Basically, make sure that you feel clued up enough to give a good answer to that old chestnut "Why Manchester?"

Hey guys, so basically had a lot of issues in high school and performed very poorly on the IB (32 with 6,6,5 HL) but have since went to university in the states and have been predicted a GPA of 3.9/4. Now Manchester's website states that:

From Community College/those holding an Associates Degree
Most students applying with an Associates Degree are considered for entry into Year 1 of our programmes.
As UK undergraduate degrees are usually very specialised and shorter than degrees in the USA (usually three years), the ability to gain advanced standing from an Associates Degree can sometimes be limited as we must determine that your Associates Degree has covered exactly the same content as students who have taken the courses at Manchester.
This is because our undergraduate degrees build knowledge and learning as you progress through the degree, for instance courses taken in year two will relate and depend upon issues and concepts learnt in year one.
If you do wish to apply with an Associates Degree, our minimum requirement is a GPA of 3.0, preferably 3.3.
When making an application, which must come via UCAS, you should provide as much information about your community college and Associates Degree as possible, eg telling us which four-year institution your college is linked with, details of your course syllabus etc. This should be sent to the Admissions Officer.

I was wondering if anyone knew what my chances of getting in are and how much they will weigh my high school grades. I've applied for Management and IMO wrote quite a good Personal Statement.
