for no.2 obviously thats in another paper. for number 3 you havent done yet,

for number 4 i agree with ur parts i,ii,iii. on the last part i agree wit ur coord wer the max value occurs and that its 1. but u also need to find the minimum value which i got to be (1/sqrt2) at ({+or-}0.5,{+or-}0.5)

numberr 5 i dont get -.-

Hey, can you please check with my answers as well? They'll be in a post a page or two back, I think.

It's not (d) because then (ii) is also true contradicting there only being two true statements.

Does anyone else feel that the "-" between c and 1/c in the first line of problem 3 actually be a "+"?

Anyway, here are some of the answers - I'm not writing any solutions or proofs here - that I got:

Spoiler

we already discussed number 1. you got 10 and i 9 :colone:

number 2 yep.

number 3 obv weve both done part i. i agree with ur part iii. (min val of c+1/c was 2) so it foloows from there. part ii i actually didnt get to come out. AND IT WAS A LONG ALGEBRA SLOG. so was part i tbh, did u get ii to come out? u cud be right in that c-1/c should be a plus since it part ii it is so. does that give u the right nswer for part ii then?

i agree with ur number 4.

now number 5 i am finding really hard to think about. could u perhaps explain to me how u got 5.i.a) and then hopefully i can work thru the rest

Okay, here goes, do tell me if I'm not making much sense-
1. If (iii) is true, BOTH (ii) and (iv) automatically become true. But we know that EXACTLY two statements are true, so (iii) is certainly false.
2. The right pair must be some combination of (i), (ii) and (iv), in that case. But (ii) & (iv) isn't the pair, as we've been told. So that leaves us with (i) & (ii) and (i) & (iv).
3. Note that if (i) is true, (ii) is certainly false.
4. Therefore we can conclude that (i) & (iv) is the right pair, and the correct option is (c).

I'll explain 5.i.a when I come online properly, okay? I'm on my phone right now. As for 3, it was tedious and I wasn't sure if I had to work with a + or a - so I left part ii midway. It was really boring.
