I've got a part in a presentation for year 11s, basically talking about
'Why IB is better preparation for life/uni', why they do better at uni etc...

IB should just replace A Levels if I'm honest.

Hmm some people are genuinely better off doing A levels though. But not many I don't think.
I think society would be a lot better, well, there would certainly be more disciplined people walking about.
Here's a question for all of you - what would you do to education in Britain if you had complete power over it? Add/change etc.

If I were ever to become Education Minister, that would be my plan with languages

Segregating those who wish to learn and those who don't is a dangerous area though...it may seem reasonable at first, but what of those who decide they wish to learn later in their school life (I was fairly not-give-a-**** until Year 10)? You'd need a mechanism by which the transition between classes of school was seamless, which is impractical at best.

Speaking as a grammar school student, I really disagree with that last point. People underestimate how important it is to be exposed to a wide cross-section of society, and - more to the point - to learn how to achieve in an environment where you're working with a variety of different people, which everyone has to do eventually. If, on a daily basis, you're only seeing people of a similar intelligence to you, you're going to grow up with a skewed view of the world, as a lot of people in my school have.
Plus, how do you measure "smartness"? Because IQ, while it measures academic intelligence capacity well, it doesn't take into account other types of intelligence (e.g. creativity).

Academic intelligence. Not IQ, but the ability to learn basics and apply it to more complex areas.

And I've always had a laugh. Not taken class seriously and that, but I've always wanted to be pushed. Even moving into a private school, I thought there'd be a lot more intelligent people

I do understand where you're coming from, but I stand by what I said. Even though my school is pretty relaxed, the issue stands - we're still only socialising with a very specific group of people. As a result, not only are people who aren't as academic stigmatised, but also people from my school also struggle to learn in an environment where not everyone understands everything right away, and have a very warped picture of their value as a person. The only reason I don't have that issue is because I do extra-curriculars outside school, meaning I've learnt to learn alongside lots of different people, and I understand that my worth isn't inherently tied to four letters (not to say that that makes me a better person, I just think it's a better place to be in for things like uni and jobs).
