Scared that I'll mostly apply to "bad" unis

Hey guys,

Since I've been waiting for my referee to complete my reference, I've been hanging in the studentroom reading through questions and stuff like that.
Doing that, I got a little scared because I've read some bad things about some of the unis, I want to apply for.

I want to study "Digital Media" and because there are not that much unis that provide my course and meet my points, I've chosen:

- Nottingham Trent
- Bournemouth
- University of Chester
- University of Hertfordshire
- Edinburgh Napier University

I'm a foreign student and I expect to reach something around 280 UCAS points. I know my grades are too bad to think about a "bigger uni" but somehow I'm concerned about my choices.

Nottingham Trent is defiantly my first choice. But what if I don't get in? What do I pick in a situation like this?
I haven’t send of my application yet, so I can still change some of the unis. Would you recommend, I should?

Thanks for your help! I'm feeling a little bit lost. :frown:
Do not let people on TSR make you feel bad about where you want to apply. If you feel happy about applying to those universities, then that's all that matters  Best of luck with your application :h:

Unless you attend Oxford or Cambridge, there are people on this forum who will try to bring you down.

My advice? Ignore them.

Thanks guys! :grouphugs:
Sorry, I just freaked out a tiny bit. I'm the first one of all my frieds applying to uni (expect for me, nobody wants to study abroad and here we won't apply before may) and I just really want to do it right. I don't want to end up in a uni which has a bad reputation.

What would you say? Is anyone studying at one of my choices? If so, how is it? Do you like it there?

Do one thing, out of 5 choices, select 4 choice which is achievable and one which is 'dream' (meaning an elite uni, you like). A good and convincing PS will be considered by some uni's and you might get offers, even if your grades doesn't meet cut off (my experience, not joking). Just you risk one choice for a good uni and for the rest of four choice keep other unis which you can achieve. No risk, no gain  ( And you are too just risking one choice, so doesn't matter)
Hey! Thanks! That is exactly what I just did. I changed one of my choices into my "dream" uni. I only send my application of saturday, so I was still able to change my choices.
I deleted the one I probably wouldn't have chosen anyway, so I can't really lose. And who knows, maybe I get lucky...

Thanks again! :^_^:

Hi! Sorry, this is a bit of a late response, but better late than never! I'm a current student at Edinburgh Napier and couldn't recommend it enough! I had the grades to opt for an 'elite' Uni, but their courses weren't up to scratch for what I had in mind, so I chose Napier because their course was more comprehensive. It's the best decision I ever made. These Unis are only 'bad' in the eyes of snobs, not employers, especially not employers in creative industries. A friend of mine studied history and politics at Oxford and received a first-class honours, and she has been struggling to find work for 2 years. A friend at Napier, who also studied Digital Media, now works as a senior design creative for an international advertising agency. Napier's graduate employment record is one of the best in the entire country, and their creative industries School is extremely well connected with industry employers - headhunters attend the degree shows every year.

Let me know if you've any specific questions??
Sara
