The General Assembly of The United Nations

Noting that the Doha talks have been going on since 2001 and have yet to reach any adequate agreements,

Noting that the MHoC has recently passed a motion criticizing the Doha talks,

Further Noting that there has been a lot of criticism of the talks from other people, institutions and countries,

The (Model) United Nations General Assembly:

1. Calls for the end of the current round of Doha negotiations,

2. Sets up a thread in the MUN, to be entitled 'Trade Talks,' with the following features:

i. A committee, made up of the P6 countries (P5 + MHoC), and up to 10 other members, of which at least 5 places will be reserved for low middle income countries or low income countries (as defined by the World Bank, any country with GNI per capita of below US$4,036)- the committee members will be chosen on a first come first serve basis for all interested delegates

ii. All members of the committee will be expected to contribute to the thread

iii. All other delegates of the MUN are also welcome to contribute, without any restrictions

iv. Any motion proposed by the committee must be voted by the whole MUN, as a normal resolution

v. Any pact or agreement that results from the talks will not be voted on but will be an agreement between individual delegates, who may join or not join at their own discretion and dependent on their country's position

Serbia fully supports this resolution and would be willing to commit fully to the trade talks.

Iran would support trade talks on the grounds that the crippling sanctions on our country are lifted and Iran is able to participate in global trade.

OOC: I think this should be 2013/15. Resolution 2013/13: Regarding Collective Defence and Military Alliances is active in the Security Council

Great!

I am very much in favour of increasing and creating a link with the MHofC!
With so much of us involved in both the MUN and the MHofC we could really get this going!

The Kingdom of Spain: Fully supports this resolution and hopes that other countries will also embrace this resolution as well.

Indonesia support this notion. However we suggest a mention of how often the definition of

low middle income countries or low income countries

will be updated to a more up to date figure will it be updated every time the World Bank produces a new figure or will it be more independent of the world bank and that figure is only being used as the initial amount.

Russia supports more globally balanced trade between all cooperative nations and as such supports this notion. However care must be taken to ensure that these talks are productive in producing trade and do not just become a pointless bureaucratic waste of time and resources.

I know discussions are over so I'll make it quick.

Both France and Zimbabwe fully support a second round of Doha negotiations. We believe that trade is vital to our international economy, for every country not just the higher income ones and we are glad that low income countries are also being represented.
