Are you a brit applying to Ireland for medicine? In Ireland to study medicine you need to do an additional exam, the hpat.

Yeah, I'm British hoping to apply to Ireland. I have alot of family over in Ireland, and i just thought it would be another option if i cant get in over here again. Do you know anything about their admissions process? Thank you!

Thanks! So are you applying to irish and english universities? Well i was just wondering if you knew what 480 leaving cert point were equal to at A level. And any advice for the admissions, as CAO seems really confusing! :/

I sound about the same as you. Originally from Ireland... Thinking of applying back to the homeland if my UK application falls through...

I'm not really totally sure of the points equivalent though I think I did see a thread on TSR with the points equivalent. I'm not familiar with A2 or As and the UK system so I can't be of much help for converting points. This link seems pretty good for information: https://myucd.ucd.ie/programme_info/alevel.ezc. That's from the UCD website but check or email the other colleges (TCD, NUIG, RCSI, UCC) as each will probably have their own requirements. To get into medicine you have to fulfil the 480 points requirement as well as sitting the HPAT exam. In reality you need a lot more than 480 points. After 550 points, every 5 points is worth 1 point. So if you got 600 points in the Leaving Cert., you would have 560 points. You also get bonus points for maths. (I'm using LC points here as I'm not sure the a level requirements). To your points, you add your HPAT score. The maximum to date has been around 240/300. It's a lot harder than the UKCAT. It's a 3 hour written paper with 3 sections: logic and reasoning, empathy and interpersonal skills and then a section with shapes and patterns (very different from the ukcat). You're very pushed for time. You sit the hpat in March and you get the results in June.
You apply through the CAO before February but you can change your choices until around July (you can view the dates on the website). For the CAO, you rank your choices in order of number 1-10. You can add all 5 medical schools. In August, offers come out and you receive the highest course you are eligible for. As in, if your number one choice is 500 points (just random figures, not in relation to medicine), and you got 450 points, then you don't get your number one. However if your number 2 is 450 points, then you get that course. You can't choose which course you get, it's done by your order.
Last year the lowest points required to get into medicine were 739 for Galway.
By the way, CAO and hpat registration have already opened. You need to register early for the hpat to ensure you get the location of your choice.
Not sure if I've explained this properly but hopefully it will be of some help. If anyone has any more questions just ask!

Same I don't want to get rejected, I really like Manch one of my top choices, all i know is that my UKCAT is strong enough judging from stalking thread I just hope I pass the PS screening.

As for PS4  Im still £70 short and still job searching :frown: then ill have enough for it alone, I did preorder it  but game said I might have to wait a bit after launch date. Online on Game.co.uk there is a deal for £605 which has PS4 including FIFA 14, CoD Ghosts, Killzone Shadowfall, Need for Speed Rivals and some lego game lol. Quite a nice deal especially if you're a guy :P (not to be sexist but we love FIFA and CoD)

EDIT: oh and I used to get problems from my mum, she bought me the stuff but never allowed me on it much lol, she hated when I played Runescape and World of Warcraft but then I showed her my grades :colone:

Lol trust me, the gaming world is the place to be! Its amazing! Some games give me palpitations because of how intense they are! (Killzone3 for reference  )

I feel for you! You NEED a playstation! My mother shouts even if I go on it for 10 minutes because she hates it. Thats why I play at night when shes asleep

I even have a virtual boyfriend (A little OTT I know but you would be crazy not to love him!) From my favourate game series; Uncharted

yeah same! Manchester is my first choice as I live here so I wont have to cook, clean or do anything other than study and eat

Nice  But I would rather buy shadowfall with the PS4 than with Cod included. I wouldnt play that game if someone paid me. Once you become a killzoner (which I hope you will) you will understand this rivalry. COD is for children. KZ is for grown ups (when you see the brutal melees and the sounds they make, you will know...#THE HISTORY OF THESE DAYS WILL BE WRITTEN IN BLOOD! - best KZ quote). Plus we can all be medics and go around reviving each other

haha I call it a "stimulating diversion" It was a stress buster during revision when I had an hour to spare. Now its my fulltime occupation (alongside my job) Really helps with relaxation  Thats my excuse

Anyone else who is working having issues with their boss?

My manager is an absolute bitch. She accused me of lying and it really upset me. She also heard me call her "bitch" and now we officially have a mutual dislike for each other. She wrongly accused me of "playing" on the computer when I was meant to be working when all I was doing was crossing off the content up by the previous user and she conveniently walked past and I told her I didn't do it and repeated this 3 times after she said "yes you did I saw you". She spoke to me like I'm a ****ing kid who is gonna lie. I felt like slapping her.

If only "the purge" was an existing legislation...I know what I would do to that bitch :frown:

Sorry if that in any way offends you but I was really upset. I was wrongly accused of lying which is not something that anyone would take lightly.

Secondly, this website is clearly for socialising aswell. Of course, when in a professional situation I wouldn't swear or speak like that but this was something personal. Anyone in my position would have felt and said the same. This woman is pure evil. :frown:
