First time clubbing - what should I expect?

Some friends and I have arranged to go clubbing this weekend, in total there will be around 6 guys. I've recently turned 18 so this will be my first time clubbing. I've got so many question, what should I expect from the club? What type of clothes shall I wear? How much money shall I bring? Is it worth having a couple of drinks with my mates before we go to the club? Whats the best way to start talking to girls, and what to talk about?

Any tips or advice would be appreciated

Expect to be crushed in a mass of drunk people moving vaugely in time to some standard beat while paying extortionate amounts of money for drinks.

What to expect in a club- flashing lights, terrible music and swarms of girls with reeeeeeally bad hair extensions.

But at least there is cheap booze.
1) I don't know what you should expect. Watch an episode of Geordie shore. Except, you probably won't pull on the first night.

2) Depends on the club. Jeans and a t shirt for a standard club. Maybe something more fancy for another club.

3) £20-30. Budget slightly more for London and for dropping money.

4)Yes. Just don't go overboard and get plastered. Do not get too too drunk before you get to the club otherwise you won't get in. Since, it is your first time, then I would stick to 1-2 drinks.

5) Sometimes, they will come up to you. Sometimes, they will look at you at you too many times. Sometimes, you will bump into them. Quite frankly. the entire process is a drunken mess that takes many months to master.

A swarm of devolving, degenerate drunks dancing to some pathetic tune doing things they would be embarrassed by if they were half sane.

Stay away.
What should I expect from the club?

A bar; sticky floor; loud music; low lighting; and stale air

What type of clothes shall I wear?

Practically anything you want. It doesn't matter because no one will notice anything.

How much money shall I bring?

£5

Is it worth having a couple of drinks with my mates before we go to the club?

Yes, it is.

Whats the best way to start talking to girls?

In a friendly and confident manner whilst moving rhythmically to the music.

...and what to talk about?

Comment positively on her appearance; ask her what she's studying; make a comment about the ugliest building on campus; casually mention any plans for the night and invite her along; euphemise casual sex.

1) Music, drink, drunken people, bad dancing, bouncers.
2) Depends on where you're going. What kind of club?
3) Depends on the club. I usually bring around £30-£40 on a Saturday. Student nights are a lot cheaper.
4) Definitely worth pre-drinks, it's hard to face a club sober
5) Don't go expecting to meet loads and pull loads of girls, go expecting to have a good time, a laugh and see what happens. It's not really the pulling experience people hope for.
6) It's difficult talking to girls in a club despite 'what's your name?' and a few compliments.

Don't worry, you'll have a good time
Expect ... to run out again immediately, screaming and crying for your innocence back.

No. Not a couple of drinks. ****ing loads of drinks. At a cheap pub or somebody's house. Get reasonably drunk and aim to get to the club for 10pm at the very earliest.

This is the Way, the Truth and the Light.

Never go sober - get reasonably smashed before you turn up and then top it up with shots when you start to get bored. Expect to be squashed and deafened (probably at the same time), have people - usually girls in heels - stamp on your feet and drink sloshed over you.

Meh, it's fun when you're drunk. ;P

People's advice is going to vary based on their own personal experiences. But here's mine

I'm guessing you're a guy, so the standard is always a tshirt/shirt with non-scruffy jeans. Don't wear actual trainers as clubs don't tend to let you in, but shoes like vans or similar looking plimsole types are fine and don't count as trainers. A more up-market club in London and I'd be going for the shirt and black trouser look.

Money depends on how much you want to drink and how expensive the club/area is. I will take out about £20 when I go out, to pay for roughly £4 entry, £4 taxis and £12 on drinks (buy me about 3 or 4, but I also drink before I go out). If you don't want to drink, you'l only need like a tenner. If you want to get very drunk and don't drink before going out, maybe £30. Also, if you weigh a lot you're likely to need more alcohol, keep that in mind if you do.

Drinks before is worth it, to save that awkward time at the start of the club night when you're getting drunk enough to socialise well, and it saves money.

Girls-wise, smoking area is where people actually chat. Even if you don't smoke. If you do, standard line that is obvious but widely used is "do you have a lighter?". Otherwise, get a mate or two with you, and go up to a group or couple of girls together and start a conversation. You won't find a girl alone. The opening lines are always a bit muddled, but then conversation usually starts properly...ask them if they're local, if they're having a good time. Play off what they say, don't just fire questions at them. Like I said, everyone goes to smoking area to chat. Non-smokers included.

Other than that, loud music, drunk people, awkward dotted couples eating each other's faces, dark room, flashing lights, rowdy boys, girls wearing no clothes and the odd underager who keeps running to the bathroom to throw up, and you've got an average club.

Learn to like rock music if you don't already, clubs often have a rock/alternative music night which are usually cheaper, less busy and generally more enjoyable because you actually have space to move around and do what you want to rather than get mobbed by an overpopulated crowd. If you are going to a normal club night though then arrive late, it's generally less packed as the night goes on and so it becomes more enjoyable. Also don't go to clubs expecting to pull girls, talking to them is out of the question due to the volume of the music so unless you smoke (the smoking area is quiet) then your only chance to impress is to dance well, which most people can't do drunk.

Well, yes, although I think we have different definitions of "drunk" - maybe tipsy would have been a better word to use. I didn't mean that you have to get so smashed that you can't walk straight or remember the night, just enough that you aren't so aware of how annoying all the other people in the club can be. Clubbing when you're absolutely sober is not an experience I would gladly repeat.
I'm actually having a really difficult time trying to describe what clubbing is actually like - it's usually crowded, people bump into you a lot, people will shove you at the bar, if you go to the toilet on your own you will probably spend ages walking around on your own trying to find your friends, a lot of the music is rubbish (club dependent). But it's a lot of fun. I bring about £30-40 because I like to have money spare in case I have to get a taxi back on my own but I never spend that much. I don't buy a lot of drinks in clubs because they are usually well overpriced so get drunk before you get there. That's the most important piece of advice anyone can give you. Pre-drinks are one of the best parts of the night and I would hate to miss it. Organise a get-together at someone's house before you go and make sure you are drunk before you leave. When entering the club, act as sober as you can because if a bouncer decides you're not coming in, you cannot reason with them. The best place for meeting people is the smoking area - it's the only place where you can have a decent conversation. I've had some fantastic conversations smoking, and many of those conversations have led to something more.

haha ok, I guess i'd have to be more than tipsy to have a girl stand on my foot in heels and be having a good time
