Mulayam Singh demands ban on English language in Parliament Read more at: http://ne

Etawah (UP), Nov 17: MPs should be banned from speaking in English in Parliament, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav has said. "There should be a ban on English address in Parliament. Countries which use their mother tongue are more developed. It's the need of the hour to promote Hindi," Yadav said in a function here last night. He was addressing a programme organised by Etawah Hindi Sewa Trust to felicitate persons involved in promotion of Hindi. "The leaders of the country have double character as far as Hindi is concerned. They ask for vote in Hindi but give address in Parliament in English. This should be stopped," he said, clarifying that he was not against English language per se. Yadav said people living in different regions should try to promote Hindi apart from their regional languages. In his address, the SP chief also cautioned the Centre about China, saying the country could not be trusted.

It's almost unbelievable that in a country where language is such a sensitive issue, like India, idiots like this guy want a language of a minority of Indians to be the only spoken language in Parliament. He is seriously out of his mind if he thinks non-Hindi speaking Indians would stand for being forced to learn Hindi to engage in politics.

Not really. He's paying to his support base. His support base isn't the brightest.
This is an outrage!!!!!!!!!!111111
Or not. Clearly he strongly believes only their native tongue should be spoken and not a language which to them is foreign. Honestly, who gives a ****?

It's not a native language to most Indians though. Although at least it is a native language to India.

English is the only language which is widely spoken across all of India, as either a first or a second language. Hindi is spoken by more people in total, but mainly in just a few areas of the northern plains, and not at all in the south. Surely it makes more sense then for government business to be conducted in English rather than Hindi?

Well, sensitive idiot he is because he feels that why should everyone speak English, when I don't know how to speak a correct and complete English sentence. Typical case of jealousy and ego, and it is like if one person doesn't know the basics of science, that doesn't mean that you ban the entire community to learn science. Stupid expectation from a even more stupid politician. He should be banned for contesting polls. And if you hear how mulayam (no capital= no respect) speaks Hindi, even an elementary school kid would laugh off like anything.

Only 5% of the indian population speak proper English.

The rest use Hindi as the unofficial lingua franca. Better to use a native language as an official language to integrate than a foreign one. At least countries with self respect do that such as UK, China etc.

Those that object forget that north indian languages come from sanskrit while the south indian ones have 20% sanskrit words. Hindi comes from Sanskrit. So indians, where is your pride?
