Got a conditional offer last week from Portsmouth for Marketing with Psychology. I have to get 280 points from 3 A-Levels, or 280 points from 2 A-Levels and Diploma in Finance. Should be easy. Portsmouth will be my firm, i cant wait!! anyone else doing marketing?

Congrats. Physics is in the school of earth and environmental science, but I don't think you share any of your modules with any other course. The rest of us share a few and there might be 250 people in a lecture ! I think they just had to put it in one of the schools ... I think all of the rest of us study a topic which is physics and chemistry, but considering I only did gcse triple science and not a-level physics, even I understood the physics, so I think it's took basic for those studying physics, so they don't bother doing it.

Thanks for the reply. I gather physics at Portsmouth is quite heavy on the practical environmental applications of physics. A couple of guys on my course are applying to Portsmouth for geology, so I was wondering if there might be any overlap, but I guess not.

And their topics are

How the Earth Works
Earth Materials
Earth History and Life
Quantitative Methods
Science for Earth Systems
Natural Hazards

None of your topics are shared with environmental science or geology, but possibly are with one or two other courses. I know for your friends, 'how the earth works' is a geology/chemistry/palaeontology kind of topic which has 200-300 people from various courses, 'science for earth systems' is the physics/chemistry topic with 100-200 people from various courses. And 'earth history and life' is shared with palaeontology students (I think), I don't know if it is with anyone else. And quantitative methods is a maths module, which lots of people take from all kinds of courses and departments, but this year they decided to only have workshops for it, so we're in classes of about 20 for that. Which for me is 20 people from my actual course, so they probably split geology students up in a similar way. I imagine 'natural hazards' is shared with geohazard students, but I don't know how big that class would be. Overall the classes of geology students are probably quite big, but yours are likely to be much smaller. Although it's possible that some of your topics would be shared with classes from other schools. For example my ecology lectures include people from the biology school.

You'll still have plenty of time to socialise with them. At it'll give you an opportunity to make other friends. If you were with them for all/most of your lectures you probably wouldn't bother trying to make many/any friends with other classmates. And you'll all be based within 2 buildings (I think anyway, dennis sciamer for you perhaps, and Burnaby for your friends) which are right next to each other, plus dennis sciamer has a café so you can meet up for lunch. Although you'll probably have some lectures in other buildings, for example I have a lecture with geology students in park building a couple of minutes walk away, plus another in Richmond building which is next to the other 2 I mentioned. You might have some in anglesea which again is next to Burnaby, as that has the engineering department. But they're still within a couple of minutes walk from each other, so it's easy to meet up in gaps.

I got an offer for journalism but I didn't get asked for an interview, they just gave me a conditional offer :biggrin:

I've applied for coventry, sheffield, Lincoln and Chester too (i got an offer from coventry for english and journalism) and my predicted grades are BBB, so I'm not really sure about Portsmouth being in my top two choices because I have better universities in my short list.
Just wondering, is the night life good and is the university nice socially?
I heard from a friend that its pretty boring and there aren't many clubs or things to do :/

For your kind of course, out of your choices, Sheffield is highest ranking. Don't just look at overall uni rankings though, that's pretty much pointless as many mid ranking unis have specific departments/courses which are better than doing it at certain russel group unis. I come from a small town, where there's 2 night clubs and that's it. So to me, there's lots to do around Portsmouth. And everything is close by. Even if you end up in langstone halls, theres a free uni bus to the main uni area. This even operates at the weekends and late into the night, so you can get off by the uni, then it's less than 5 minutes to the city centre and night clubs.
