Oh thought you meant that it takes 40 mins to get to the city centre when you said "It takes about 40 mins to see the city centre". Also, I thought that students usually go to the O2 centre that's on campus. Didn't know that they go to actually city.

There are quite a few good nights out in the city.

Mondays-Club republic. Tuesdays-Mosh. Thursdays-XY. Only cheap taxi fare to get to them aswell when you are going in a group.

The main nights out probably are at the O2 though with red leicester on wednesdays and shabang on friday. Usually a free bus from oadby student village till a certain time.

I typically don't bother with night clubs though Mosh is palatable as is XY. Republic is average to poor. Poor music and most nights are like a German cuisine convention. There are more nice bars and pubs though, even right in the centre.

Tbh I only go to Mosh haha, mainly at the O2 for the nights out. Haven't tried XY yet!

You're not missing a whole lot. I have been once only.
I rarely go to the night clubs though, I think I have been to Mosh 5 times in 5 years!

Do you prefer social life over academia?

for example:

If you knew that Newcastle had better graduate prospects and teaching than Leicester but knew that you hate the area and barely anything social goes on. Would you go to Newcastle or Leicester if Leicester had better social aspects but Newcastle had better academic aspects ?

When I was applying it didn't matter to me but I'd probably care more now. DO NOT, however, base your decision on socialising. So long as there are girls around it wouldn't bother me much!

Hmm so if you had the same knowledge you have now you would have accepted the university with better academics? What if you know that if you went to the university that had better academics there will be NO social life, there may be girls but it wouldn't be anything like the other sociable uni

Err, Leicester was the best university I could get in to so it wasn't really an option for me. Socialising is often what you make of it anyway and isn't really worth worrying about. Girls is also a moot point because they are everywhere.

Hmm the reason I ask is because I have 2 main options ( Queen Mary ) and ( Leicester ).

Now I know that if I go to Queen Mary I will have 0 social life as I will be living at home, we'll not 0 but rubbish (as now).. But QM is better at teaching and academics, they are also really focusing on that at the moment.. Their graduate prospects are also better than Leicesters for my course.

But, Leicester will offer me a better social life, a sense of independence, but their course outline isn't as good as QM's nor are the employment rates etc..

I dunno which one I should prioritise (Social Life) or (Education)

Queen Mary doesn't have much of a reputation and it's in London, boo! Get out of their and come to Leicester! Also, you don't wanna be taking girls home every weekend to your parents house

Haha, so you prioritise social life over academia. Btw how can QM not have a rep? It's going to be ranked in the top 20 unis (league table wise) in 2015, it's also a Russell Group uni.

My knowledge is restricted mostly to chemistry where it isn't really a high flyer, may be different for your topic though. Also I don't prioritise socialising... I just don't like London (or living with parents which I am doing at the moment grr!).

I know how you feel LOL it sucks so hard. I hate london too but I think that if it's going to get me a better degree then I would handle the negatives.

I don't really know what to add. I've given you my opinion, I think Leicester is a great university and wouldn't choose any other over it, you may get the same feel on the open day. London is dodgy and nobody wants to live with their parents.

Maybe so. You could have developed a connection between yourself and the university but I haven't been there yet so haven't.

But at the end of the day I wouldn't want to graduate realising that I could have had a better chance getting somewhere in life if I went to the Russell Group university.

I promise you it really won't make that much of a difference... But believe what you wish.

Yeah I dunno, I'm sick of this "Russell Group" crap. I'm going to a QM open day soon and a Leicester open day, I'll decide which uni I'll end up going to after visiting both universities.

My college is really **** tbh, they never give me advice on anything regarding universities.
