Yes, Dutch is useless, German or French for Western Europe, German or Russian for Eastern Europe, Mandarin for Asia, Spanish and Portuguese for South America are the languages people should learn for job prospects. That said for personal learning, Dutch is still one of the most useless languages known to man.

Not all language is for business prospects. That's just rude, it's obviously not useless... Or it wouldn't have existed and still be surviving at present.

Luckily I'm learning all those, bar Portuguese which I dislike a lot.

Wouldn't call dutch useless but considering how proficient Dutch people are in English, there isn't much point learning it.

I'm aware that's the case. Dutch exists because of the Netherlands, outside of the Netherlands no one should learn it and that comes from Dutch people themselves (in my father's and my own working life). It's useless, you can disagree with me but talk to the Dutch, any sensible one will tell you that it's not worth it.

What Germans speak English too. Yet that's not useless in your opinion?

'Should' according to who? You? So not worth much.

Don't know if it's a pain to learn, just don't like it.

Wow that's a lot. How did you go about it? I'm trying to teach myself Arabic at the moment, using Rosetta Stone, and don't really know how to approach it.

Formal education mainly-I did French and German for A Level and I now do Mandarin and Japanese for my degree. I self taught a bit of Chinese and Japanese before I started uni though and that was just a case of going to the bookstore and finding the best book.
