can't revise

Hello, I do biology, chemistry, maths and geography if you are struggling with applying things then perhaps you aren't as secure with the content as you think. Perhaps you could try revision guides (always get ones specific to your exam board) I also find watching YouTube videos for things helps. The main thing I think is important for biology and chemistry is to really learn how the mark schemes work, you'll find the same questions come up every year but phrased differently. Reading the examiners reports can be very useful too. Hope this helps somehow

what's the best way to revise for as levels?

i've tried making colourful notes and making a timetable (doing a topic of each subject a day) but my grades are not improving. at all.

i feel as though i know the content but i struggle applying what i know to questions in exams. (i study history, biology, maths and chemistry if you were wondering.) thanks!

lmao, that's the one thing that definitely doesn't help for sure.

As my Geology teacher frequently reminds us, "If you learn the syllabus, you'll tend to get an A. They can't ask you a question in the exam that they haven't answered in the syllabus."

He likes to print the syllabus out every lesson so that we have no excuse for not having it, and we then complete past papers dating right back to 1996. This not only helps in being able to understand how to answer the questions provided, but also helps us learn to use the terms that the exam boards give you marks for.

His technique most certainly works (we get the best Geology grades in the South West here). This is most prevalent in our Geology mocks where pretty much everyone got an A (with one or two exceptions). It is also worth noting that the Geology department have the highest grades in the school.
These syllabuses, aka Exam Specifications, and past papers can be found freely on your exam boards' websites. If you want older ones ask your teacher, else they'll be floating around on the internet somewhere.

I guarantee that if you do every past paper from your own specification, plus older papers, and you do them ~2-3 times each (yes, do papers multiple times as it improves your ability to recall information), you will ace most of your exams.

Hello- a Biology (Salters Edexcel), Chemistry (Salters OCR), Maths (OCR) and English Lit (OCR) student here!
Print off the specifications and revise one sub-section a day or week from those. I live for the revision guides and revise from those mainly as they cut out the nonsense and too much detail. I find it useful to see things online and videos.

So useful I swear to you.

Cue cards are also very useful- try putting past paper questions on one side and a bullet point list of an ideal answer (from the markscheme) and get somebody to test you on it until you can say it perfectly. This also works very well if you get the questions as your own adaptations from the specification.
Maths is slightly more difficult, but I cannot emphasise enough the need to look at the way past questions are phrased- they can make it difficult to get to what you are familiar with (like you need to do several stages to get their formula into a thing you can differentiate etc.)

past-papers. past-papers is the be all and end all of A-levels. Heed this advice.

I'm having the same problem. Print out all of the relevant examiner reports you can find, mark schemes & exemplar essays. Do past papers. Really try to spend a lot of time trying to understand fully what the examiners are saying in the examiner reports. Hope this helps x
