Lol everyone is taking this Grammy thing waaay too seriously. Tbh some of the greatest MCs may never even win a Grammy because their music isn't mainstream/popular enough. That doesn't mean that they are a bad MC. In the same way, an MC who decides to make mainstream isn't necessarily bad. For that reason we shouldn't tale anything away from Macklemore. We can go on about how much hip hop is underground but some of the greats eg 2pac and biggie were mainstream. Also, please don't tell say Kendrick doesn't make mainstream music, its not commercial but it is mainstream orientated.
