I just accepted my unconditional offer for Korean Studies at Sheffield today.
Are you applying as well? To both Korean and Japanese or just one of them?

I have just received an offer from the university of Sheffield, but my UCAS track hasn't updated so I don't know the exact details yet of it. But very happy about getting an offer for Japanese studies.

I will be going there for Japanese come september, was rejected last year, so declined my offer from leeds to try again this year and now have an unconditional which is cool. I would just like to know what minors are available to be honest. how many credits u get left to use up? I would like to go for some chinese or TEFL if possible with minors

That's great to hear more folk are doing the course, thought i was the only one (silly i know) I have applied for the BA Korean Studies, BA Korean with Japanese and BA Japanese and have received Conditional offers for all as long as i pass my exams with AABB (Scottish Highers).

I thought about Chinese but I prefer the Korean and Japanese culture plus I have had more exposure to them both than Chinese so it seemed logical, but i'm not saying i will never want to study it

Sounds good, have you applied anywhere else to study Korean and/or Japanese or just Sheffield.

Got a conditional offer a while ago from Sheffield for BA Korean Studies. Bit nervous since it's the only one I applied to, but I should be alright if I study hard  I got AAB at AS. I'll be really disappointed if I don't make it in

Cool, perhaps by that time, I and any other fellow 2014 Korean freshers will be in South Korea.
We will be your 누나 and 오빠

I don't think they do a Chinese with Korean course at sheffield but definitely Cw/J and Kw/J. Unless you planning on doing one of the langauges as an extra like in a Society or as part of the makeup of you BA.

That's great, and of course you will get in just study hard, i'm pretty pleased that the entry grades for me are lower than whats expected, perhaps it's because i'm 'technically' a mature student (22)-23 when course starts)

I'm nervous as well, i got 3 conditionals but all are the same offers AABB so if i don't get that i won't be getting in :frown:

Still waiting to hear from my offers at SOAS though?

:tongue:i mean that i'll either be doing japanese, chinese or korean I just haven't decided properly yet because I'm interested in all of them!
I need to start making a more definite decision though! although I do like the look of doing chinese with japanese. I'm very indecisive

How do you find Japanese in terms of difficulty? Are you on your year abroad, hows that going ?

In first year I didn't find Japanese all too hard, although I had self taught a bit before, so it wasn't all completely new. As it's Japanese for non specialists, it's not as intense as the language you take for your major-you only have 4 hours of Japanese a week! Every week we learnt a new grammar structure as well as about 7 kanji. We got tested on the kanji every Tuesday, although the day might change for your year group. Every weekend you got given homework from the text book, which was actually really helpful. You're expected to know hiragana and katakana as soon as you start pretty much, so if you end up going for Korean/Chinese with Japanese, I'd get learning them as soon as you're accepted!

My year abroad's really good actually. I'm in Nanjing, China at the moment and while it's really cold right now, it's a really nice city. There have been some culture shocks, some of which I still haven't got over, but it's a really nice place to be. It's so cheap and the food's amazing! Sheffield's really good at helping students with the year abroad, so you shouldn't have any problems! Who knows, if you choose Chinese with Japanese I could be giving you advice on your year abroad next year
I've got an offer from Sheffield for BA Korea Studies (and SOAS). I got some disappointing grades, let's say for AS, but as long as I get my grades for my conditional offers (which I should), I'll be at Sheffield next year! Since I haven't taken a language that wasn't compulsory throughout high school (french), I didn't opt for Korean and Japanese. Though I love both, I've been interested a lot more in Korea and mostly thanks to Kpop, etc. @_@
Literally thought I was the only one applying too!
I have a friend studying there, so I'm getting a bit of help from her with everything ~
So far, she's really enjoying it!

Woo! I'm glad to see that theres more people on the course, weeks ago it seemed that no one was applying and it looked like i would be the only one the course (exaggerating><). I applied to do both and I already feel the pressure haha^^
Did you apply for the combined course of Korean and Japanese or both seperately? :3 Me too! I was afraid there wouldn't be many people applying ;~; Yessss so much pressure eep but we can do it ok!1!1 yay fighting ^~^
