A history undergrad looking to become an Ottomanist after grad school here! Still have to start with my languages.

That sounds pretty interesting. I'm actually curious as to how your interest of the Ottomans came to be...? :holmes:

Do you guys know any good MA programmes in Turkey? Do you suggest an MA in History from Turkey?

I'm afraid that I'm probably less informed about Turkish higher educational institutions than you are. All I know is that the likes of Bilkent University, the Middle Eastern Technical University and Istanbul Technical University excel in the applied sciences; Sabancı University is meant to be good for economics and business studies, I think; closer to your line of study, I think Boğaziçi University is meant quite good for the arts.

All of this is hearsay though. I don't really know in all honesty. :dontknow:

I'd advise against it. Most will perceive it as 'creepy'. Your best bet is to overhear them speaking Turkish on campus and then to butt in and introduce yourself. I tend to overthink things quite a lot though. If you really want to you could always try it on one girl and see how it goes.

Galatasaray University,Middle East Technical University and Bogazici (which is personally I think Bogazici better) are the ones you can have a look at.If I had to make an order It would probably be like;

1)Bogazici
2)METU (ODTU in turkish)
3)Galatasary
4)Koc (as a private choice)

since the first two are internationally known and in the World University Rankings,on the other hand Koc and Galatasaray are really popular and considered prestigious.

2 years ago i went to a week long trip to Istanbul and Bursa. Came back but was still clueless about Turkish history and society. So staring reading independently and developed an interest in the late Ottoman Empire and the Turkish Cumhuriyyet. More specifically though my interests are in comparative empires studies in which I want to use skills on the Ottomans.
