How hard is it to get into a msc for Imperial?

Hey guys,

So I have offers for Imperial and Bath for UG chemical engineering but don't really fancy the undergraduate course at Imperial. Is it possible to do a BEng at bath (and get an industrial placement for a year), get a first and then go to do a msc at Imperial for advanced chemical engineering, or do you have to have to gone to Oxbridge to do an msc at Imperial?

Yes you have to go to Oxford or Cambridge before doing a masters at Imperial. Even a degree from LSE wouldnt be good enough.

Instead of waiting hours for someone to tell you, you could have asked Google and found your answer in 5 seconds.

I know the requirements, that's not the issue. Cambridge has requirements for A*AA but that does not mean that every applicant with A*AA will get a place. What I'm asking is (if anyone has knowledge of this, no I do not expect anyone to be part of the admission team but maybe someone who's been in a similar position can help) would a first from Bath make a strong application. Simples?

All the OP bashing is unnecessary. It's not too unreasonable to think that Imperial might have some preferences when it comes to undergraduate universities for master's applicants - information which would never be available on their website.

Imperial, being a top end university, can only be a dream to most UG. When you have the chance, grab it and enter imperial. First degree is very important, and if you think you have what it takes, then prove it!
no point sobbing if after your First class at Bath, you find that imperial rejects you because there are far too many good candidates applying for an msc at imperial. it is much easier if you did your first degree at imperial, MIT, Cambridge or Oxford (at least they are on par with each other.), then at least you can choose literally any uni in the world... but to go from a "mainstream" (yet normal) uni to Imperial, you are literally taking a few big jumps. Brains evolve as we grow, and by not being in the top uni from your UG years, your brain may be behind by a few steps compared to your mates at the top uni.
and yes, brains still grow past puberty, thats a fact.

i have seen people from other less well-known university in the UK doing an MSc at Imperial College. Some very bright students (Imperial only take in very very bright students, that's a fact) have made a choice not to challenge themselves in the top-brand university like Imperial, and decided to go to less prestiguous uni instead. So the simple answer is...no one knows... by my advice is, having a first degree from imperial is definitely better than one from bath.

I know that Bath has very strong industrial placements compared to Imperial which is mainly why I want to do my BEng there and then specialise in a MSc at Imperial. You're wrong, Imperial's prestige trumps Bath (and other uni's) in regards to getting a job in the finance sector, in Engineering other things (experience) are much more important.

I may well be wrong but I thought that, when it comes down to it, you're on your own with industrial placements. By that I mean you have to apply directly to companies. The universities don't have agreements with placement organisations. Why would Bath's be stronger?
